55 years ago, Apollo 12 lifted off from Launch Complex 39A as the second crewed mission to the Moon. The ten-day mission brought NASA astronauts Alan Bean, Richard Gordon, and Charles Conrad to the lunar surface, where they collected 75 pounds of rock samples to return to Earth.

60 years ago today, the massive Vehicle Assembly Building was under construction. Construction was later completed in 1966 and since then, the 525-foot-tall building has been the main assembly building for the Apollo, Space Shuttle, and Artemis programs.

This week in history... In 1970, the Apollo 14 space vehicle rolled out from the Vehicle Assembly Building to Launch Pad 39A. Apollo 14 later launched on January 31, 1971, on a nine-day mission to the Moon with NASA astronauts Alan Shepard, Stuart Roosa, and Edgar Mitchell.
