Speaking with the engineers who programmed @NASA_Orion vehicle automation, completing water survival training at @NASA_Johnson, and looking at entry procedures for returning to Earth after a trip to the Moon — all in a week's worth for the #Artemis II crew.
Testing time! 📝 @NASA_Orion for Artemis II returns to the altitude chamber, which simulates deep space vacuum conditions, to complete the remaining test requirements and provide additional data to augment data gained during testing earlier this summer: go.nasa.gov/3O1dbiK
This Veteran’s Day, we salute all who served our country. Thank you.
“I’m excited to train our next generation of technicians that will take us back to the Moon.” 🌕 At @NASAKennedy, Lockheed Martin Floor Operations Manager Kyle Gesualdi helps oversee the technician team that integrates thousands of parts to bring the Orion spacecraft to life.
Last week, the #Artemis II crew learned about how to keep the team strong during sticky situations, spoke to some @NASAInterns, and still managed to have a little Halloween fun.
The @NASAInterns at @NASA_Johnson got a Halloween treat last week during our Orion discussion! Thank you #Artemis II Commander @astro_reid for stopping by to talk about flying @NASA_Orion!
Happy #Halloween! We hope that your Halloween is as spook-tacular as this throwback of @NASA_SLS from 2022 🎃
Have some pumpkins that are looking a little bare? Choose an #Artemis-themed design to paint or carve your pumpkins with before Halloween! Try your hand at your favorite here. go.nasa.gov/3YqGJLp
Another busy week for the Artemis II crew! Procedure review is monotonous and tedious, but an important step for ensuring that the written procedures work in the @NASA_Orion simulator. Plus, the crew got to decompress by watching the @USNavy Blue Angels Air Show.
What has NASA done for you lately? We've contributed more than $75 billion in economic output, supported over 300,000 jobs, and provided benefits to all 50 states (and the District of Columbia) in fiscal year 2023. Get the receipts: nasa.gov/value-of-nasa/
Getting a handle on Orion’s side hatch! At Lockheed Martin Space in Colorado, the @NASAArtemis II crew recently practiced opening and closing an Orion crew module side hatch to ensure they can safely enter and exit the spacecraft in the event of an emergency. More:…
Our @NASAInterns contribute every day to Orion’s missions to the Moon! At @NASA_Johnson, Pathways Intern Kierra Shook has worked on pyrotechnics testing to ensure Orion can separate safely from the @NASA_SLS rocket once in space.
Testing the future of lunar living! Engineers and astronauts from @NASA, @esa, and @Thales_Alenia_S tested a mock-up of Lunar I-Hab, one of Gateway’s habitation modules. Their feedback helps ensure Gateway is a functional home for #Artemis crews. 🌕🏠 go.nasa.gov/3zYCQVX
Another busy week for the #Artemis II crew! @Astro_Christina and Victor Glover are training in the Integrated Test Lab, @Astro_Jeremy is enjoying some well-deserved leave, and @Astro_Reid is out here assuring his dad that he's doing just fine!
Houston, we have a new spacesuit. At the #IAC2024 in Milan, @Axiom_Space unveiled the flight design of its lunar spacesuit that @NASA_Astronauts will wear during the #Artemis III mission when they set foot on the Moon for the first time in over 50 years.
From small pieces to large components, Lockheed Martin Receiving, Shipping, and Inventory Manager Ruffin Mitchell III ensures that Orion hardware is safely shipped from NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility to the spacecraft factory at @NASAKennedy for integration and assembly.
During the uncrewed #Artemis I mission, radiation measurements were taken inside of the @NASA_Orion spacecraft to study how it can protect its crew from potentially hazardous radiation levels during lunar missions. Learn more: go.nasa.gov/4eXJnyN
