Listen up, social media platform. If, hypothetically, there were to be a Christmas Legal Live Tweet on Saturday 21st December, which festive movie classic would you like to see all the joy sucked out of by tendentious legal pedantry? Your ideas below, please. 🎄🎅⚖️📺

Thousands of tonnes of #pumpkin get thrown away after #Halloween. Some are dumped in our woods.🎃 Pumpkins disturb woodland soils and make wildlife such as hedgehogs ill if consumed.🦔 Please put your #JackOLantern in the food waste or compost bin or bury it in your garden.♻️

Thanks to @JackElsom for sending this idea for Wetherspoons in every hospital. Great idea, but sadly vetoed by the Chancellor during Budget negotiations. Thanks also to the person who suggested I be fired out of a cannon to raise money for the NHS. No. change.NHS.uk

a small thing that really annoys me is icebreaker being given the meaning of a cheesy social niceties conversation prompt instead of a ship with a reinforced hull especially found in polar exploration but in many other cold weather water navigation settings

Matthew Parris’s vision of euthanasia is one where people of full mental capacity and free of coercive influence will rationally choose to “check out early”. It’s a callous vision and it takes no account of frailty, folly, or loss of freedom in making a life or death decision

Matthew Parris says the quiet part out loud about euthanasia: “we simply cannot afford extreme senescence or desperate infirmity for as many such individuals as our society is producing.”

1. I had no idea that my membership fees were supporting a political wing of lawyers. 2. The paper sets out a position on surrogacy & the alteration of birth certificates which wasn’t canvassed with members and is not supported by the answers to the survey question.

An early Sunday morning start, heading up to Liverpool for 3 days of #LabourConference24. Fab to be speaking at this fringe event tomorrow about @ResFamilyLaw Vision for Family Justice, esp re cohabitation reform, & to meet lots of MPs to discuss reform resolution.org.uk/wp-content/upl…

Ursula Rice Reposted

Concerning as it looks like @ResFamilyLaw have been captured by the pro-surrogacy lobby. Not that lawyers stand to make a lot more money out of proposals to liberalise UK surrogacy law or anything…

“ we need to ensure no family is left behind as this is not good for children”. 89% strongly agreed. However, such a question and its answer does not mean the membership agrees with the law commission reform on surrogacy.

An important thread looking at how family law reform groups are being captured by the pro-surrogacy lobby.

1/? @ResFamilyLaw is a membership organisation to which many family justice professionals belong. It is influential and has a track history of successful lobbying, particularly on changing divorce law.

Entering Oxford. Feeling a rush of emotions. I just left Amsterdam, where my aunt lives. She told me that my education was revenge. Vengeance against her father, who banned women of our family from school, vengeance against the Taliban, and those who fear an educated woman.

Our #labourlawyers24 fringe Monday kicked off with a discussion about much needed family justice reform: Cohabitation, adoption, surrogacy, DOLS, the family drug and alcohol court and kinship care.

Our Family Law Reform Group Chair, @MissJoEdwards emphasises our call for cohabitation reform as soon as possible. Great to talk alongside @Andrew_Powell1, @catkinson80, Lord Ponsonby, Naomi Angell and Hannah Gomersall at @SocLabLaw Modern Families Panel.
