Taking my 3.75 year old to see #TheLittleMermaid this weekend. For those who have taken kids of similar age, anything I need to prepare for? We have been watching the trailer almost nightly.

Hi Hollywood 👋🏾 A few news flashes about #TheLittleMermaid There is no such thing as a Caribbean accent. Each island has its own distinct accent. If you love our “flavor” so much, hire us. Pretending to be of another culture never honors that culture.

Parents need to be forever students of antiracism not just for ourselves but because our kids are constantly growing intellectually. What they understand, their questions, the msgs they get from society are different from year to year.Empowering them means staying ready ourselves.

This morning, my 8 year old and I started our day by looking at & discussing @matikawilbur ‘s images of Native American members of the then-562 federally recognized U.S. tribes. Teaching our kids about the people whose land we occupy is an ongoing lesson. npr.org/sections/pictu…

Parents, what is our role in supporting Black teachers within the school community and not just in their role as educators to our children? edweek.org/leadership/opi…

My son is in 3rd grade and we’ve been talking about periods already as a natural part of our lives. This will affect not just vulnerable kids who menstruate, but all genders who benefit from simply learning the truth about the world around them. usatoday.com/story/news/pol…

Doing antiracism work with kids constantly reminds me of the impact of systems, society and practices on young children. If you’re committed to #antiracistparenting, be vigilant about the influences around your young kids. They may be more powerful than a parent’s words.

We live in a country where my son felt the need to ask me: “Mom, could what happened to #TyreNichols happen to you?” Me: “All that we do to fight for justice, like marching, is so that none of us have to deal with police brutality.” That’s the Black future I’m fighting for.

Tonight, many Black parents are sitting with anger and grief over the murder of #TyreNichols and wondering AGAIN how to tell our kids that policing as a system is working exactly the way it was intended to, not to protect them but to uphold systems of oppression.

If you need to watch vids of violence against Black people (like the one of #TyreNichols being beaten by police) to have empathy for our plight, I know that nothing will convince you of our humanity. Not our lives. Not our words. Certainly not videos of our suffering.
