I think I’ve treated 1000 gymnasts for back pain & 80% of helping comes down to 1. Reduce skills that hurt (arching, landing, etc) 2. Improve hip/shoulder soft tissue flexibility 3. Weight train glutes, upper back, core 4. Avoid fast routine ramp 5. Change skills if needed

Old school: “Female gymnasts should peak at 16 because they likely have 1 shot at the Olympics.” New school: “Female gymnasts should pace at 16 because they may have 16 MORE years in elite and 4+ Olympics” Welcome to the future thanks to legends stomping out the myth 🙏

Deep in gymnastics Achilles/ACL tear rabbit hole podcast prep for next month, but framework thus far: 1. There is actually little/no high quality research on tear risk factors That said 2. Workload Systems 3. External Loading 4. Landing Properly 5. Fueling Properly 6. Culture
