This is why the UKCCC has been developed, a reaction to what we percieved as weaknesses in the marketplace. Transparency is key as is projects that issue credits being net zero before selling, monitored by a physical annual visit and creating accurate project boundaries.
The Guardian view on carbon offsetting: an overhaul is overdue | Editorial theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
As well as ensuring the project host is at net zero before selling carbon credits, UKCCC approval ensures that biodiversity enhancement and connectivity has been built into the project. #ClimateAction to the #ClimateCrisis #biodiversity #NetZero #SDGs #carboncredits
The UKCCC sets out to align with current best practice and UK Climate Change Committee latest advice. The aim it to issue the most robust offsets in the marketplace giving assurance to the entire supply chain.
The UK Carbon Code will certify a farms net zero position once reached. This will ensure a farms scope 3 obligations to the food supply chain are met. Any offsets beyond net zero can be sold #NetZeroWeek We advise against putting control of your carbon into the hands of retailers
We are looking to speak to farmers in England for a project about trees on agricultural land. If you're interested, get in touch at the details below. #farming #peopleandtrees
The UK Carbon Code helps landowners keep control of their carbon sequestration, certifying a net zero position that producers can take to their supply chain to prove their contribution to supply chain scope 3 emissions. Be wary of any system that takes away control of your carbon
@uk_carboncode is the only mechanism that will certify that a farm is net zero before they sell carbon offsets through a block chain enabled carbon tracking system. Claims guidelines enables land managers to give assurance that all produce that leaves the farm is at net zero
Agreed. The system we have developed demands that farmers are at net zero before selling any carbon. The @uk_carboncode will certify that a farm is net zero and enable them to claim as much when selling goods from the farm gate. This will include large scale crops.
Dear #EdSheeran its admirable that you want to buy land and plant trees BUT remember that we do need to produce food too. Why not buy offsets through the UKCCC and be assured that you are offsetting your CO2 in a way that ensures that there are no negative outcomes
It is essential that a project host where GGR+ #offsets are to be issued is at #NetZero before they sell any excess & that the buyer of the credits has a meaningful plan for #emissions reduction. Only #additionality will provide #climatesolutions to the #climatecrisis
its #worldsoilday & it the worlds soils that have the ability to remove more atmospheric CO2 than any technology. The UKCCC will approve, measure, report & verify soil, wetland & biodiversity CO2 sequestration projects that help reverse #ClimateCrisis & #biodiversity collapse
The UKCCC is onboarding project developers. Must have knowledge of regenerative agriculture, be able to help identify opportunities for land managers to reverse #ClimateCrisis & guide them through the approval process. Full training will be given. EOI to info@ukcarboncode.org
4 steps to UKCCC GGR+ credit offset issuance, establish project host baseline & net CO2 position, project planning, project approval and verification. Process assures 4 pillars of permanence, additionality, avoidance of leakage and negative outcomes are upheld
The UKCCC is more than just a code to ensure meaningful greenhouse gas reduction. It is an ecosystem that ensures full traceability of credits through blockchain tech & that ensures the buyers of offsets make a comittment to reduce emissions (insetting) through claims guidelines
Hosts are the project owners, its not only farmers that control land. The hosts total operation has to be at net zero before they can sell excess credits. This is carried out with the project proponent (developer) using one of the carbon toolkits. Not YET dictating which one..
yes, co benefits are identified, measured and reported in the project template & annual reports. At present working local ecologists/NGOs. May adopt DEFRA Metric 3.0 The benefits are noted on the carbon tracking system and then the purchaser can decide on added value.
