A brilliant visual explanation and analysis by farmer and No Farmers, No Food steering group member Charles Goadby @thisfarmlife (with farm Lego!) on the Labour government’s punishment (inheritance tax) on family farms. Please watch and share.

‘Perhaps they run their business more profitably…’ Bring back those battery hens, sow stalls, farrowing crates, industrial units, Chinese style multi story pig production conveyor belts… Don’t upgrade the slurry pits, silage clamps. Let’s use the chemicals, chop down those…

Perhaps they run their business more profitably- or make it into a limited company or separate the home from the farm or even forbid they take out insurance. Lots of ways to avoid the tax if only they asked a decent accountant

This cry of pain and betrayal should be read by the urban folks who simply think it is unfair that land can be passed to the next gen of a family to continue farming- they might like to consider what they are going to eat as well.

An excellent read from James Rebanks. Sets out well what many don’t realise about the current state of British farming. It’s not only the inheritance tax issue…⁦@FarmersWeeklyunherd.com/2024/11/a-farm…

🚨 NEW: The Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, worked as a ‘complaints support manager’ and not as an economist in a bank according to a former colleague. She resigned after being exposed ‘doing Labour council business’ under the guise of frequent doctor’s and dental appointments.

Wow - you’d never know she wasn’t an economist from her excellent budget. I’m sure all of those going bust as a result of employers NI or farmers protesting at IT rises will be shocked to learn this. Still working in complaints dept might come in handy!

This is extraordinary & embarrassing @RachelReevesMP misrepresented her career 👇 As a reminder she also plagiarised a book. Politicians in Iran & Germany were caught plagiarising - in Germany the defence minister resigned over it Where is the shame? order-order.com/2024/11/15/cha…

I’m entering hospice today. Will probably update every little if at all. But I wanted to say to be kind, be brave, be principled, be an idealist. Most importantly, be a decent human. I love that we existed together, in this moment of time.

I’m starting to despair at the nonsense coming out of @10DowningStreet at the moment. Like many UK farmers, all the cattle on our farm are grass fed and produce beef in a carbon positive way. Such a shame the UK government refuses to champion this fact, even though they reward…

“The effects of the family farm tax means we will lose the farm. Bear in mind we are the smallest farm locally. We have an inheritance tax liability of £600,000. That’s unsustainable for us.”

The Badger Trust highlight difficulties around rolling out vaccination. They may well be right, logistically & financially. They clearly aren’t going to do anything to help. The only alternative is culling, ignoring it isn’t a policy.

Three generations laying hedges today, doing the same thing that my family has done here at Strickley for 150 years. But, we feel vulnerable about the future right now. We don’t own land as an asset for tax purposes or for a wealth fund, we own land to care for it & to farm it.

The vast majority are affected . The headlines and claims are true which may be inconvenient for Defra but are reality . With plenty of planning and TIME many farms can be passed down . But they are going to tax a tragedy if there is an unplanned death of younger asset owner !!

A true statement, but hardly anyone seems to remember this. The truth has long been buried by mythology. In the UK as a whole, Harold Wilson closed 246 mines and Thatcher 115. I don't have separate figures to hand for Wales.

Labour closed most of the coal mines in Wales not Thatcher
