1. #Saltmarshes store carbon, are nature's flood defences & are so important for wildlife. According to @UK_CEH we've lost 85% of saltmarshes since 1860 ❗ The #SaltmarshCode consultation starts today - the aim, to finance habitat creation & restoration 🧵 x.com/UK_CEH/status/…

🚨 Update! The open consultation on the #SaltmarshCode is now live! 🌿 Visit our webpage and share your feedback via the questionnaires. Your input is invaluable! ceh.ac.uk/our-science/pr… 1/

Tonight, the Woodcock Moon rises. 🌕 Folklore whispers of Woodcocks awaiting this moonlit night to cross the seas and arrive in huge numbers on our shores. It was believed tiny Goldcrests journeyed with them— riding on their backs! Look up for the final Supermoon of the year.

Just out: Trump has named Chris Wright, a climate-change-denying, anti-regulation, fossil-fuel executive as his Energy Secretary. This is a calamitous pick for (to name only two victims) the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge—&, well, the planet. apnews.com/article/trump-…

Maybe I’m getting cynical in my old age but you’ve got millionaire celebrities and tax dodging celebrities on Children In Need asking “what’s £50?” to some families watching who will be living pay cheque to pay cheque

Neil Forbes Reposted

The most heart warming thing about Children in Need is how rich people will ask you to pay to feed poor children because the government won't bother taxing those rich people to feed those poor children

The #birds are loving all the new exposed #mud! A great mix of Ruff, Redshank, Black-tailed Godwit and Lapwing all feeding furiously across the reserve this morning. Kingfisher spotted first thing and a great view of a Peregrine. #sunday 📷J.Rogers

This week we are defending Coul Links, an area nationally and internationally recognised for its importance for animals, habitats and plants, as plans to develop a golf course are scrutinised at a public inquiry. You can watch the inquiry hearing sessions here:…

Angelica sylvestris (and friend) for #wildflowerhour at @RSPBLeightonM @ArnsideSilverNL A really important family for a wide range of invertebrates. We're beyond the main flowering period now but it's not unusual to find the odd late-flowering specimen. plantatlas2020.org/atlas/2cd4p9h.…

A late-flowering #saltmarsh species - Common Cord-grass. Few species can survive repeated inundation to flower in Nov. A species that gets more hate then love & it can be very invasive, particularly where it has been deliberately introduced. #wildflowerhour @ArnsideSilverNL

Prolifery is one of the coolest adaptations in #nature - growing new plantlets from the flowers - & it looks like that's what's happening here. I haven't seen it before in Rye-grass, Lolium perenne - anyone else? It was growing on the edge of a road by saltmarsh. #wildflowerhour

#TheWinter10 from @RSPBLeightonM for #wildflowerhour Still no trouble to find 10+ species in flower, even from a short visit with little effort. Names in Alt. With @MaskellLindsay in the @ArnsideSilverNL

It's well worth a visit to the Saltmarsh hides at the moment, the work the wardens did this summer is paying off with lots of birds in the pools. @dannyhenrybear pics of Greenshank, Redshank and Great White Egret highlighting just a few of the species you can see.

@RSPBLeightonM then to Eric Morecombe hide for great white Egret and breath taking views of green and redshanks, also a spotted redshank
