Children are people.

What are some ideas that (a) seem incredibly obvious when you consider them, but (b) have extremely radical political consequences if you actually believe them and take them seriously? I'll start: "housing is a human right".

People are playing life as it’s a linear narrative-driven game when it’s actually an open world game

You can literally just email a museum and ask them to connect you to exhibit creators and geek about their art with them - what a beautiful and open world??!

In honour of #TaylorSwift arriving soon here in Vancouver, I’m resharing this important message. I suspect this had a much bigger impact on how people positively perceive cities and “density done well” than anything I’ve ever said. Thanks @taylorswift13

Congestion pricing is exactly the kind of bold problem-solving that has seemed in short supply in urban governance over the past four years, writes @henrygrabar slate.com/business/2024/…

I too agree with outgoing Supervisor Preston on this. I wholly support the daylighting law - but this implementation is a recipe for stoking more anger from our fellow citizens and will be met with comically predictable backlash. @SFMTA_Muni y’all need to get ahead of this. Now

I agree with Dean Preston on something! When you eliminate street parking in an urban area, paint the curb red. Failing to do so is a recipe for outrage and backlash.

A really big (3-4x) positive update to GiveWell's estimate of the cost-effectiveness of GiveDirectly, largely driven by more optimism about positive spillovers. Seems like good news for the world! But I have a *lot* of spreadsheets to update. shorturl.at/yNr3E

strongly in favor of increasing compensation for elected and unelected government jobs. we need competent people who have much better financial options to choose public service.

Congresspeople make $174,000. The President makes $400,000. Should politicians be paid more?

I'm starting to wonder if the modern gender wars are themselves a direct result of low TFR, that it's easier to make absolutely insane generalizations about your opposite sex peers without the benefit of siblings who make them far less foreign to you

You’ve got to wonder what kind of people Trump is planning to install who he knows can’t be confirmed in a 53-47 senate

Any Republican Senator seeking the coveted LEADERSHIP position in the United States Senate must agree to Recess Appointments (in the Senate!), without which we will not be able to get people confirmed in a timely manner. Sometimes the votes can take two years, or more. This is…

This is a controversial claim, but in my experience, more than 90% of the time, when people bring up neuroscience during explanations of psychological phenomena, the neuroscience adds nothing of value to the explanation other than making the explanation *seem* more authoritative
