I might as well just pin this one

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I miss the days when libertarians were shills for Big Pharma

Social spending is higher in Nordic countries than in the US but the gap is smaller than you might think

The most elementary mistake in campaign strategy analysis is assuming that changing a candidate’s message to gain some votes will also not cost them any votes

The government spends considerably more on health insurance than defense

Americans work about 34 hours a week and they earn far more than what’s needed for food and shelter

My (politically infeasible) plan to cut government spending: phase out Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid and replace them with universal catastrophic coverage and a modest UBI

Your periodic reminder that Social Security is a bad deal for workers

I’m not a Nozickian, but one of Nozick’s great insights was that simply examining how much more the rich have than others is insufficient—we also need to examine *how* they got rich. Creating wealth via positive-sum market activity is morally good

“This is not the first incident targeting the university’s Jewish community. Swastikas and antisemitic language written on the River Campus tunnel walls were discovered in February, according to the university.”

For all the Democrats talking trash about Bernie Sanders this past week, here's a graph for you.

“Bernie would appeal to Trump voters because he shares Trump’s populist economic nationalism” is not the persuasive defense of Bernie that some of his advocates think it is

When you realize that both Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump support a cap on credit card rates and oppose free trade

Immigrants are twice as likely to start a business as native-born Americans, an entrepreneurial boost that fuels even greater demand for labor.reason.com/2024/11/06/can…

Every country on the planet with high real median personal income also has billionaires. That we can have prosperity for all without institutions that allow for billionaires is purely conjectural

This is why America is fucked. 41% have medical debt, 650k are homeless, 60% live paycheck to paycheck and Elon Musk is on track to become a TRILLIONAIRE. Tax his ass. Nobody should even be a billionaire never mind a TRILLIONAIRE. I think he’ll get by just fine with 999 million.

Death knell for degrowth? New study: Even meeting basic needs would require 26hr work weeks & huge resource use. "Reducing consumption to the level of basic needs is not enough to achieve either social or environmental sustainability."

I’m increasingly convinced of the view that the primary purpose of radical politics is not to create political change, but rather to provide proponents with a sense of belonging and identity—and the opportunity to grandstand by administering purity tests
