Well, we’re about to see how much we can get right on climate in the US without federal govt support – or with its infuriating opposition. ❤️🩹 Here’s some guidance, that I do my best to follow, that may be of use to you in this foundationally fraught time. open.substack.com/pub/ayanaeliza…
A perfect song. On repeat. Quiet, mournful, sweet, crescendoing determination. Thank you and RIP to the incomparable Quincy Jones. open.spotify.com/track/7bLOZu7a…
The Biden admin has 74 critical days to lock in as much climate progress as possible. Here are 3 steps they must take before handing over the White House. evergreenaction.com/blog/the-clima…
My message about the election results:
Despite all the chatter, Trump didn't really gain with black voters nationwide: 86% Harris, 12% Trump. Unchanged from 2020 when 87% of black voters went for Biden, 12% went for Trump. Black men? Static. 78-20% in 2024, 79-19% in 2020.
The challenge, after a loss, is to learn something *new.* Most people aren't doing that right now. They're taking in information and trying to fit that within their prevailing world view. The NEW thing I'm learning is: People do not and will not vote for harm mitigation...
Dr. @ayanaeliza visited Fletcher to discuss her book "What If We Get It Right?". 🌏 Johnson's book features contributions from 30+ notable figures across various industries, functioning as an "anti-apocalyptic mixtape" of climate optimism. Read more about Johnson's book:…
“ a 1 point difference in exit poles between 2020 and 2024 for black men “ … the apology to black men needs to be as Loud as the disrespect was 🗣️
Black women in my circles have been talking about starting community groups, regular gatherings, etc. I'm thinking about doing the same. Cause we know the darkness that's already here, and that it stands to get worse. We gotta help each other. We are all we've got.
I'll leave this here
No one is going to come to save us. But a lot of things are coming to f* us up.
“I've witnessed something that I feel is extremely bad, not just for the United States, but for all of us in the world.” Scientists around the world expressed disappointment and alarm as Republican Donald Trump has secured a second term go.nature.com/3UEdHa2
Let's be honest here: This was an across-the-board shift away from the Democratic Party. Not just one demo (though Hispanics shifted the most). Two main reasons: Inflation and Democratic priorities and language that just doesn't appeal to non-college people (esp. men).
It’s pretty clear that pursuing Republican votes simply did not work.
This is NOT what America is about. America is about *opens history book* uh oh *Frantically starts flipping though pages* uh oh. oh no. no no no. uh oh
Trump was absolutely right about who we are as a nation. Absolutely fucking right. We are exactly as shitty as he told us we are. Democrats need to learn this.
I cannot emphasize enough how disturbing it is that Fulton and Dekalb county voting precincts were targeted for bomb threats. These are the biggest, Blackest counties in Georgia. A quarter of the state's Black population between them.
Congratulations to @GregCasar on his re-election! He has been a champion for working people and for climate action, leading the fight for the first-ever heat protections for workers. We are proud to continue fighting alongside Rep. Casar to advance this crucial work.
Congratulations to Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley on her re-election! Her unwavering commitment to the people of MA-07 and her powerful voice in Congress are critical for holding corporations accountable. We’re proud to stand alongside @AyannaPressley in this fight.
Whatever the result, it will never not be absolutely terrible that it’s even this close.
