Would be nice if they weren’t both being harassed by their own government.

NVIDIA, $NVDA, is partnering with Google, $GOOGL, to design quantum computing processors

I will say Commissioner Carr has been excellent on the light touch approach to innovation on issues like GONs and the problems with net neutrality Hoping he recognizes the same principles and agency restraint apply when it comes to online speech platforms

Especially important given Carr’s appointment and stance on 230.

Looking forward to a great discussion this afternoon on #Section230 and the Anderson v TikTok case. This potential case goes beyond just TikTok and even just social media given the way many different online services use algorithms. Register here: freedomofthought.fedsoc.org/anderson-v-tik…

"Failed" here isn't the most accurate term IMHO; blocked by the Department of Justice as part of an ongoing hesitancy to allow mergers and concerns and shift towards a "big is bad" mindset is more accurate

BREAKING: Spirit, the biggest U.S. budget airline, said that it has filed for bankruptcy protection and will attempt to reboot as it struggles to recover from the pandemic-caused swoon in travel and a failed attempt to sell the airline to JetBlue. apnews.com/article/spirit…

The funniest part about all this to me…. The “cartel” failed its supposed core mission to suppress information. All the topics he mentioned are widely discussed on the web. The internet is bigger than this “cartel” and big government telling companies how they will operate…

Facebook, Google, Apple, Microsoft & others have played central roles in the censorship cartel. The Orwellian named NewsGuard along with “fact checking” groups & ad agencies helped enforce one-sided narratives. The censorship cartel must be dismantled.

Very concerning message without any clear details about what would change in policy. What is often lost in the debate about rights is that business owners have rights too. The rights of “everyday Americans” (as opposed to entrepreneurs and business owners?) don’t necessarily…

We must dismantle the censorship cartel and restore free speech rights for everyday Americans.

Politicians who max out the national credit card want to micromanage yours.

An anti-usury bill capping outrageous credit card rates ought to be a top priority of the next Congress

Federal mismanagement doesn’t just waste money—it shapes how cities and states fail to innovate. I produced a video 11 years ago with @reason about Honolulu’s rail, a $12.45 billion disaster. My dire predictions back then were too optimistic. Here’s what went wrong and why it’s…

Tell that to people without clean water, electricity, reliable food, etc. GDP matters.

We should judge civilizations by the "Pointless Beauty Metric"

Totally agree!!!! Hardware upgrades too!!!

The government runs on ancient computers & software. Needs an upgrade!

One could argue that it’s happening anyways despite these impediments. Sales of traditional soda are down and alternative health beverages are on the rise.

Hint: this would happen automatically and without any regulation if we just got rid of sugar tariffs and corn subsidies.

This is true but… 1) supply will always meet demand. Desired movies aren’t going anywhere! 2) physical mediums can fail (disc scratch, hardware failure) and are less resilient than distributed digital networks. Not as big of a difference as may think.

Christopher Nolan says “if you buy a 4K UHD it’s on your shelf it’s yours, no company is going to break into your house & take it from you.” “That’s never really the case with digital distribution, you’re relying on the continued health of the supplier.”

Would love for Norway to be innovation friendly!

I’m born and raised in Norway. I think it’s a beautiful country that I would love to live/build in but right now that’s not possible. Sadly Europe as a whole is falling behind due to innovation hostile policies/culture. If you all help calling it out it might improve eventually🙏

So true!!!

Too many Democrats have lost sight of how technology has advanced progressive goals. Not Rep. Torres.

Wow…Affleck is based on AI! I think he’s mostly right that it doesn’t/cannot really create anything new. It only knows what we’ve told it, and it only does what we ask it to do.

Ben Affleck says movies will be one of the last things replaced by AI: "it cannot write Shakespeare... AI is a craftsman at best... nothing new is created"

I was on CBS Mornings today, giving an update on the movement to roll back the phone-based childhood, and making an appeal to Americans to ask their congresspeople to pass KOSA by Christmas (the Kids Online Safety Act). It is stuck in the House. cbsnews.com/video/social-p…

excellent reporting here from Madison Alder about what's likely to happen on AI policy when the next Trump administration rolls into town. Honored to have my thoughts included.

Back in the GDPR wars, my eyes were opened when a European regulator explained to me, "We know no one can actually comply with the letter of the law. They're aspirational. We just really want the companies to come talk to us before they do things."

Definitely a real incentive there!

Every time the EU releases a new ai policy document I think, “wow, lots of this is quite under-specified and will likely need to be followed up with another policy document.” And I wonder whether that is in fact the point of this whole endeavor: more work for framework-drafters.
