There is not a single solution to every problem. There is a discovery process, and you don’t discover it in Congress.

IMHO one of the most important new NBER papers this week: Exactly how much do people dislike DENSITY? Answer: people on average will pay about $9,500 more for a house in a neighborhood with 0.5 fewer units/acre. People at median will pay about $4,500 more.

That the sharing economy helps people to trust each other more seems very reasonable. Especially given my personal experience that positive and trustworthy interactions in the sharing economy are the vast, vast majority. But I haven’t seen research on it before this interesting…

The last few years have seen a spike in credit card debt as people need and use credit. Price controls on credit interest rates will just cut a lot of people off from credit when they need it. thehill.com/opinion/financ…

This is not okay and is not sustainable. It's time to get serious about how to handle shoplifting and disorder. The answer can't be long prison sentences, but it also can't be nothing. The AV CJ team is holding a BRIDGE event on how to handle retail theft, early in 2025. Looking…

It happened again this morning, and it’s sadly becoming a joke at this point. I walked into Starbucks, and the shelf that just a couple of days ago was full of holiday merchandise for the new season was completely empty. Again. When I asked the barista, they confirmed it:…

This is true but… 1) supply will always meet demand. Desired movies aren’t going anywhere! 2) physical mediums can fail (disc scratch, hardware failure) and are less resilient than distributed digital networks. Not as big of a difference as may think.

Christopher Nolan says “if you buy a 4K UHD it’s on your shelf it’s yours, no company is going to break into your house & take it from you.” “That’s never really the case with digital distribution, you’re relying on the continued health of the supplier.”

You think credit is rough now? Just wait until medieval Christian economics teams up with progressive populism to make everything more expensive in the name of helping the little guy. Per @Bankrate current avg. interest rate is 20.35%, trending down. cc @HawleyMO @SenSanders

The efforts of @DOGE will be an uphill battle, but the opportunity to apply some benefit-cost analysis and even just simple performance measurement to federal programs has never been better. @VivekGRamaswamy

Congress and the president show no interest in cutting government. Maybe outsiders can get it done. reason.com/2024/11/15/dog…

Between now and July 4, 2026 @DOGE will be flooded with ideas for federal programs to cut or reform. A key lesson from state level government efficiency efforts in the past is these ideas need to be sorted by “bang for the buck.” Put the energy into evaluating opportunities that…

Doug Burgum seems quite thoughtful on housing and mobility. Here's him at a governor's summit calling for the legalization of mixed-use and walkable neighborhoods. I hope he can apply this perspective to plans to release federal land for housing.

Excited to see Burgum land a cabinet role in the new administration. He's a YIMBY abundance guy:
