A second period with the HelD wrestler: it physically links #RNA polymerase recycling and #transcription initiation. rdcu.be/dWukr @IOCBPrague @IBT_CAS @NIVBcz

One of the main challenges of contemporary medicine is posed by the resistance of pathogens to antibiotics. An important step in countering it has now been made by @tm_kouba and colleagues from @IOCBPrague, in collaboration with researchers led by Libor Krásný from the Institute…

In its final form out today: The complex structure of human tRNA methyltransferase METTL6 in complex with a fully modified serine tRNA and seryl-tRNA synthetase (SerRS). nature.com/articles/s4159…. All maps, models and micrographs are out as well! Some highlights:

The Kowalinski Group has shown that a tRNA-modifying enzyme selects a specific tRNA through cooperation with a tRNA synthetase, a highly abundant enzyme that’s extremely specific towards certain tRNAs – a previously unknown mechanism. Check the link to learn more!👇

To build proteins, the cell uses over 400 almost identical, yet different types of tRNA molecules. How does it distinguish them? EMBL Grenoble researchers have discovered that this happens through a previously unheard-of cooperation between two enzymes. embl.org/news/science-t…

How did we lose our tail? A simple question.. but it wasn't really asked before! We discovered a plausible scenario for the genetic mechanism that led to tail loss. Amazing that such a big change may have been caused by such a small genetic event. nature.com/articles/s4158… @BoXia7
