Trauma informed, responsive is"NOT"about excusing behaviour. My lens is not about excusing the behaviour, but trying to explain it.Once you understand the behaviour, why a young person is subconsciously acting out,you can usually find a way to create ways to help them.🧠🌱

It can definitely feel like the wait time is too long, but it makes such a difference for participation. Students who rarely spoke up, started participating.

That awkward silence where every second feels like an hour actually has its benefits! ⏳ 🙌

I think everyone has different life experiences. We need to meet people where they are at and support them from that point. It’s a journey.

What are their limbic & nervous system challenges.Where are they socially, emotionally and developmentally. Listen to them, hear their challenges.Scaffold reachable goals, instead of unrealistic expectations.🧠🌱

100% agree. “Know their stuff” to me is a deep understanding of the curriculum they are teaching (from PL), the why behind it, and the progression of skills taught throughout school. It’s so much more than delivering a scripted curriculum.

The best know their students and their stuff.

How many times do we hear that it’s okay for kids to miss a few days? #EdChat

This. 100%. I was pondering this idea this afternoon. This matters for kids…and it matters for adults too. We all want to feel seen and heard.

Cliques divide people into insiders and outsiders. Healthy groups offer everyone a sense of belonging. It's not enough to be polite. It's critical to convey that we value each member's contribution. The foundation of respect is making sure others feel seen and heard.

100%. I think the key here is teaching teachers the why and how behind the data we collect. If they don’t find value it in, they won’t use it.

We often talk about ACEs, the bad things that happened, and quite rightly so. But we often forget about the things that didn't happen, lack of connectedness. This can lead to a young person constantly seeking validation because they were not validated by people around them. 👇🧠🌱
