Reflecting on the importance of taking a tentative & flexible stance when working with emergent literacy learners. What might we miss if we follow a pre-set agenda & our own pre-conceived notions of what a child needs? Sensitive observation & responsive teaching are essential!

Thank you Andrew K. Miller for your excellent article, especially relevant for today's times when raising activist, knowledgeable citizens matters so much.

"Civics isn't about fostering political agendas—it's about creating individuals who actively engage in their communities." Here’s how to teach digital literacy through civic education. hubs.li/Q02W95d40

Yes. Clay said about focusing on letters (phonics) as one of the stages of learning to read, “Ignore this at your peril.’ Up to 1/3 of each reading recovery lesson should focus on letters. And there is always context and meaning related to today’s reading and writing.

I was devilishly pleased to see my home state, Ohio, called out in @ReadingShanahan ‘s latest blog post. I hope @GovMikeDeWine and @EHanford read it. This quote is key: 1/4

Not fun watching/listening to yourself but #ReadingRecovery is too good an intervention to not shout about. I have learned so much over the past 7 years since I started on my RR journey with @LucyLiteracy

In our latest Catch up with Colleagues series, we spoke to Lucy Cosstick and Gillian Gourlay, our Reading Recovery Teacher Leaders. They explain more to us about the Reading Recovery programme in East Renfrewshire and the impact it's had.

Yes! Let’s hope the national curriculum review is heeding all the many people with primary education expertise who know that the teaching of reading, and writing, needs to change!

This is an absolute must-read by the brilliant @DamsonEd! Some of us have been trying to make these points for a long while, especially about reading being more than decoding, and meaning being more than words in isolation from text.
