The horrors of living near an incinerator are to be exposed: The Nightmare Next Door - Available on BBC iPlayer from 6pm tonight. bbc.co.uk/iplayer

@wiswinorguk At long last after campaigning for nearly five years, just for Wisbech, the media are recognising how wrong incineration is.

3.1% of UK electricity is provided by burning rubbish Plastic waste - from fossil oil - means the power is as polluting as coal Yet numbers of incinerators are on the rise It’s an “insane situation” to UK waste management says Uni Southampton academic bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

We just dropped in on Liz Truss’s pro-Trump speaking tour with a remote-controlled lettuce banner. She didn’t find it funny. 🥬

Next step challenge the #Wisbech mega-waste incinerator that will emit around 800,000 T Co2 every year , not to mention the thousands of HGV trips to feed it... @wiswinorguk @UKWIN_Network @LeighDay_Law

The government admitted the Whitehaven mine was permitted unlawfully following the historic Horse Hill Supreme Court ruling last month which we helped win. They'll no longer be defending the mine when FoE and South Lakes Action on Climate Change challenge its approval in court.

Thankyou for asking him, we look forward to seeing an answer!

Open letter to @SteveBarclay from the idiot behind the knots. Personal letter not sent in consultation with anyone else. Or representative of any other body. Agenda = to try to stop it. @wiswinorguk @LabourNECambs @OneNationMartin @VBucknor - copied for info. Excuse typos :-)

It’s Windrush Day. Sixty-nine years ago Sidney McFarlane arrived in Dover from Jamaica. Now he’s back, with an important message for Sunak and Starmer

(5) Come to Wisbech. The place where poor people grow and produce your food and where the biggest Incinerator in Europe takes your waste and gives YOU cheaper energy.

wiswinorguk Reposted

Latest crock of s**t from my MP @SteveBarclay says a new Tory government will block a £450m waste incinerator in Wisbech that the old Tory government rushed to approve only a few months ago. He knows full well the law and the time to block it has gone. Pass the sick bag

@johnelworthy And all the disapproving criticisms regarding the Wisbech incinerator and the surprise announcement of banning all incinerators on Steve Barclay’s account have been removed.

A reminder the campaign manager for @SteveBarclay in this election is @stevetierney And along with 2 other @Conservatives councillors from @FenlandCouncil all breached Covid rules and were issued written warnings by @CambsCops Neither Barclay, FDC, or the 3 miscreants apologised

wiswinorguk Reposted

No explanation from @paulbristow79 happily hosting @Conservatives chair @RicHolden who was parachuted into a 'safe' seat 300 miles from his home. Yet @paulbristow79 hollers blue murder that established Labour candidate @andrewpakes_ came from Milton Keynes - just down the road

The Conservative plan to loot the £1.5bn UK Shared Prosperity Fund to pay for their £2.5bn national service scheme is deeply disappointing. This fund was meant to support local communities, not be raided for an unfunded pledge. bbc.com/news/uk-politi…

wiswinorguk Reposted

Conservatism puts faith in deregulated markets. But regulations were there for a reason: to protect consumers and the environment, AND to ensure fair trade and competition (benefitting traders too). Regulations make markets work. Scrapping them causes market failure. 7/13

wiswinorguk Reposted

Economically, their small state approach has stifled growth. Austerity held the economy back, reducing income to the Exchequer and forcing continued cuts in a doom loop. 3/13

I’d advise people to boil water before drinking it or drink bottled and be cautious when brushing teeth/showering with tap water for the foreseeable. This is what happens when you privatise water and the government lets the private companies run riot 👇🏼 Fucks sake.

A huge thank you to the 6 @prestonlabour councillors who have signed the #recycling pledge so far! @PrestonLibDems & @PCC_ToriesGroup it's not too late for you to sign too! ✍️ukwin.org.uk/pledge/ ♻️ Reduce ♻️Reuse ♻️Recycle

In 2021/22 our shamefully low recycling rates: ♻️ Preston - 32% ♻️ Lancashire - 41% We already have too many incinerators - why build more white elephants and inhibit recycling? ♻️Reduce ♻️Reuse ♻️Recycle

Incineration overprovision holds back recycling. Wales banned new incinerators 3 years ago and is achieving 66% recycling. Scotland’s recycling rate rose to more than 62% since introducing their moratorium. English incinerator overcapacity justifies a ban. ukwin.org.uk/overcapacity/

wiswinorguk Reposted

We are witnessing the start of what we hope will be a comprehensive moratorium on new waste incineration capacity in England. This follows similar moves in Wales and Scotland. gov.uk/government/pub…
