WOH G64 in the Large Magellanic Cloud = first close-up picture of a star outside of our own galaxy Beautiful

Star imaged in detail outside the Milky Way for the first time (image, video) trib.al/xCZReh0

Probably one of my favorite (space) pictures ever

It’s giving rainbows and unicorns, like a middle school binder 🦄🌈 Meet NGC 602, a young star cluster in the Small Magellanic Cloud, where astronomers using @NASAWebb have found candidates for the first brown dwarfs outside of our galaxy. esawebb.org/news/weic2425/

The wait is over! #EuropaClipper officially launched on October 14, 2024, aboard a powerful Falcon Heavy. 🚀 Now, it’s on a journey to unlock the mysteries of Jupiter's icy moon, Europa. The spacecraft will perform gravity assists from Mars in February 2025 and Earth in December…

Chandra shows light from the supermassive black hole in the galaxy's center, neutron stars, & black holes pulling in matter. @NASAWebb finds dust, gas, & stars throughout the galaxy and @NASAHubble shows the view in optical light. NGC 3627 is about 36 million light-years away.

Another stunning example of gravitational lensing in deep space revealed by #JWST. And there is a single Milky Way star in this image. Everything else is a galaxy.

Bear in mind, R. Doradus is ~180 light years away from us. This is magnificent.

This is the most detailed look ever at the surface of another star. The ALMA Observatory just revealed these images of the red supergiant star R Doradus -- 350x the diameter of the Sun -- showing huge, shifting bubbles of hot gas. eso.org/public/news/es…

#BreakingNews For the first time, astronomers have captured images of a star other than the Sun in enough detail to track the motion of bubbling gas on its surface. The images of the star✨, R Doradus, were obtained with ALMA📡, in July and August 2023 🔗almaobservatory.org/en/press-relea…

The dream goes on. Hope that Voyager can outlast me

My mission began 47 years ago today when I joined my twin on our journey to the stars! 🚀 This past year has certainly been an eventful one. Makes you appreciate every day. Thanks to my team (and all of you) for not giving up on me! -V1

Was Mars home to microscopic life in the distant past? An intriguing rock spotted by @NASAPersevere has qualities that fit the definition of a possible indicator of ancient life. But what did we find, and how will we know for sure? go.nasa.gov/3WDv6kH

This area is part of the Serpens Nebula. Located 1,300 light-years from Earth, it’s only 1-2 million years old — very young in cosmic terms! It’s home to a dense cluster of newly forming stars (about 100,000 years old), seen at the center of this image.
