I am super excited that our paper (my 1st 1st author paper 🥹) in #pnas is finally out! We found that the #chytrid s Bd & Bsal have 2-speed genomes previously only found in #plant #pathogens. Also exciting: #transposons appear to be shaping their genomes & drive pathogenicity. 1/2

Our new paper is published in #pnas on the 2-speed genomes of #chytrid pathogens of amphibians (Bd and Bsal). Repetitive sequence inc. transposons appears to be shaping their genomes and driving their pathogenicity pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn… @theresa_wacker

Hey kmers' fans! The "back_to_sequences" tool github.com/pierrepeterlon… is now published in JOSS joss.theoj.org/papers/10.2110…. Find sequences (reads, unitigs, genes) related to a set of kmers in large datasets, in a matter of seconds. More to read in this thread: x.com/p_peterlongo/s…

⏰kmer-addict alert :) We've updated back to sequence (b2s) github.com/pierrepeterlon… In a 🥜 Find where a set of kmers occurs in a set of reads, how many times, and in which orientation. Recall and novelties (v.0.6) are presented below 🧵1/5

Hot of the press from our lab (or let’s face it, from @NickGervais12), a dive into the fungal “hidden genome” and all the amazing things that lurk there!

New to @NatureComms, we review how non-coding RNAs, transposons, microproteins, and other functional elements besides canonical ORFs contribute to fitness across the fungal kingdom, and the new tools we have to characterize them @ShapiroRebecca (nature.com/articles/s4146…)

Our @AnnualReviews review about the evolution of transposon activity is finally officially published as open access!! We would love to hear your thoughts! annualreviews.org/content/journa…

Why do transposons jump at highly variable rates, and what does that mean to host evolution? In this  @AnnualReviews, @texasrulz1@kweiosis, Yuheng, and I integrated classic pop gen theories and new empirical data to explore this long-standing question. annualreviews.org/content/journa…
