So I just learned that Indiana has a higher population density, higher population, and higher GDP than Scotland and yet somehow can't afford more than 5 train routes compared to Scotland's...24.

REPUBS: 18 people should own this country, everyone else can eat shit and die DEMS (staring at dry erase board): What should our message be

This is 100% it, and it leads to the followup question “Why was Biden so unpopular when a lot of fundamentals were quite strong?” And the answer is INFORMATION ENVIRONMENT

My initial take on Trump's win: goodauthority.org/news/where-to-… His gains were widespread, so explanations should start with the broadest factors -- not with bespoke stories about states, cities, counties, and groups. The simplest explanation: party of unpopular incumbent loses. 1/2

Dems need to realize their rhetoric helps set the Overton window. Validating illegal immigration as being a massive problem when it's not doesn't trap republicans, it makes them look rational instead of crazy. Pushing right has not worked since Clinton.

The exit polls, the popular vote, the massive swings red in the senate, all indicate that this country has moved incredibly far to the right (something that has been clear in our discourse and media for years). It's simply not true that this was about Kamala not being left enough

-you’ve allowed the other side to dominate the internet, which is where most people learn about politics -you haven’t ACTED like a party facing an authoritarian threat, and treated that idea as vaguely embarrassing -you put too much faith in field - it’s all info environment

Democrats, here’s what you’ve screwed up: -you haven’t thought about the information environment enough, you assumed your ads and policy positions would filter to voters -you continually pulled punches, assuming that voters would automatically react to things like 1/6

Steve Pleasant Reposted

-you’ve assumed that if you were simply good stewards of the economy and supported popular policy, voters would magically head your way - no, it’s mostly irrelevant -you have been far too reluctant to go after Trump’s greatest vulnerability, his grotesque personal character

Things are bad, yes. What can each of us do? Be an asset to your community, whatever it may be. That’s the only way people ever come out of this, and it will be our pathway out as well.

ethel cain on the election: "if you voted for trump, i hope that peace never finds you. instead, i hope clarity strikes you someday like a clap of lightning and you have to live the rest of your life with the knowledge and guilt of what you've done and who you are as a person."

A good reminder that a single moderately busy metro line can move this many people in one day.

The latest @Waymo California driverless ride stats are out from @californiapuc In August 2023: 12,000 for the month. In August 2024: 312,000 for the month.

Word, let’s talk undocumented immigrants and housing. Right now, Texas is avoiding an apocalyptic housing shortage by building new units faster than any other state. How many of those construction workers are undocumented? An estimated 50 percent

This railroad tie plate is stamped with the year these still active rails were laid, 1930. No road could last 94 years because no form of transportation destroys the infrastructure on which it runs faster than cars.

I am seeing this graph everywhere missing the context that these numbers are just for swing state voters and if you look at the whole country Gen Z men and women are actually pretty closely aligned. I have no idea what to make of this.
