I have many interests, but here it's trying to get around my city safely, and the century-long dream of cities free from #TrafficViolence.

Thanks for keeping the bike lanes clear!

Thank you @MayorMKE for declaring today Snow Plow Driver Appreciation Day in the @cityofmilwaukee! We want to thank our dedicated snowplow drivers who work tirelessly in treacherous weather to keep our roads safe. They brave the elements so that we can safely travel.

Drivers kill each other at a rate of a 9/11 every single month, every single year. Most of those crashes are preventable. PREVENTABLE.

Everyday, more people start to realize Chicago is a suburb of Milwaukee

Why is this in Chicago 😭

DOTs control ~25% of urban land and have multi-$Bn budgets. DOTs are fond of blaming road users in general and people on foot in particular for their abject failure to build safe systems. The EU and Asia are not graced with better walkers. Their DOTs take safety seriously.

Nearly a quarter of pedestrians killed in traffic crashes are over the age of 60. It's a reminder that safer practices benefit everyone. Safer people save lives.

Ontario’s Minister of Transportation: “Instead of placing bike lanes on side streets or in quieter neighbourhoods … bike lanes are being added to major thoroughfares…” Yes. Because people on bikes also deserve direct, convenient routes. #CarCulture

Our province is stuck in traffic and bike lanes aren’t helping. In the coming days our government will unveil our plan to work with our municipal partners to ensure bike lanes are introduced in a way that reflects the needs of the entire community. thestar.com/opinion/contri…

People see crashes that make the very top of this pyramid on TV. Bicyclists and pedestrians see the bottom half, and it’s all those “good drivers” with a car full of their own children, late to who knows what, on their cell phone speeding in a school zone. Headline in the making.

I saw three examples of reckless driving within 24 hours last week in downtown and the Polonia and Riverwest neighborhoods. All appeared to be typical middle class drivers in their 30s and 40s.

It's been a while since I've read _The Great Divorce_, but I think of it more and more frequently as a allegory for a view of what some think cities should be--a sort of anti-urbanism. Many of the repliers would rather live in Hell/Purgatory than live in human society.

once you really understand how underpopulated Milwaukee is, you start to notice it everywhere for example, this is a downtown intersection at 12:30pm on a Tuesday this is not what a city is supposed to look like

A reminder that emergency vehicle sirens are loud enough to literally cause permanent damage to human hearing. … and the only reason that they’re this loud is because cars are both (a) insulated from the outside world and (b) blocking the way.
