Imagine doubting actual people’s brain neurology just so you could use autistic people with co-occurring conditions as a vehicle to disgustingly dehumanize autistic people with comparisons. We know what you’re doing here and you should be ashamed of yourself, Steven.

Some of my students at Harvard proudly label themselves "autistic." They are not meaningfully on a "spectrum" with profound autism, like Zack in this article | My son has profound autism. Don’t call him ‘neurodiverse.’ bostonglobe.com/2024/05/23/opi… via @BostonGlobe

The folks out there pushing Graded Exercise Therapy (GET) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for infection-associated disease states like #LongCOVID, #MECFS and chronic #Lyme produce bad science and peddle harmful/dangerous rhetoric are truly deplorable, but what's more, 1/

If the COVID-19 pandemic was the first time you felt let down by govts, or institutionally betrayed, you are among the privileged. There are people who have lived with daily systemic violence and institutional betrayals directed at them for decades.

N95s are an occupational tool that prevents a TON of challenges for everyday, persistent, including hair type (especially with the “rubber band straps). They are an AMAZING tool, but here are some very real things that could be fixed to make them better for persistent use: 🧵

in regards to the story of the child being excluded from the school picture by the photo company, I want to gently offer something, as someone who was in 'special' classes as a student, and has been knowingly living with a neurodevelopmental disability for some time. thread:

Thank you! Someone shared this great website yesterday and I'm sharing it with you great folks who are still masking youhavetoliveyour.life You can select a minimizing comeback in the dropdown and it'll give you articles and science proving each "argument" wrong. It's amazing

Hot take but I think people were way too chill about sickness before Covid. It was so normal (and is normal yet again) to be out in public sick. To go to school, work, shopping, events, traveling abroad like people go everywhere while they are sick.

Another bit of language morphing I have noticed around Covid is the (often well meaning!) use of “comfortable” instead of “safe.” In my experience, when people are negotiating mitigations, they default to “comfortable.” “What would make you comfortable?” On the surface—

And I’m only hearing about this now.

I had a meeting this morning about a brief talk I'm giving next week on diagnostic overshadowing in developmental disability. During the conversation, I casually mentioned autistic suicide risk. 1/?
