📣 💐📚Happy book day to me! DISABILITY INTIMACY has been a labor of love that I worked on for the last 2 years. I hope you enjoy it. bookshop.org/p/books/disabi…
ICE has 20,000 agents. The only way they'll deport millions of people is with the help of software. If you work for a company that's selling their tools to help ICE do this work, you should leak to reporters what's going on.
New: Hours after Trump won, ICE asked companies to submit plans for how they’d expand ICE’s system of GPS trackers + databases surveilling “noncitizens” awaiting trial or deportation. Gov contractors said ICE’s timing was probably not a coincidence: wired.com/story/ice-surv…
Asking people to prove their conditions is ableism 101
If DSA locals asked for evidence that someone really has a condition that prevents them from attending unmasked social events before agreeing to a mandate they'd free themselves both of the mandates and their most disruptive members overnight

I've seen many say "so what if people reject vaccines, refuse to wear a mask, or drink raw milk, it's Darwinism." Well, the risk of viruses mutating into more deadly forms increases when they are allowed to spread. Individuals ignoring public health practices harms everyone.
The displaced no longer have a safe haven. After being forced to flee the northern Gaza Strip in search of temporary safety, the occupation targeted Salah al-Din School where they had taken refuge, pursuing those who fled with their clothes and lives. Fires broke out, and civil…
Trump plans to put Tulsi Gabbard, a dabbler in conspiracy theories, in a job overseeing 18 spy agencies, with responsiblity for preparing the president’s daily intelligence briefing. What could possibly go wrong? motherjones.com/politics/2024/…

The only thing good about tonight’s heinous display of ableism by some leftists is I know I’ve chosen the right heroes: Black radicals + contemporary folks like @thrasherxy and @SFdirewolf, who always stand for the vulnerable and at great personal risk. And they mask ✌🏻
What @SFdirewolf and I (& 250 others) argued in our letter supporting journos in Northern Gaza was that w all their power, US newsroom should pull all the same levers of power they can w WH, State Dept etc for Palestinian journos as they do when NYT or WSJ journos are in danger
NEW: For my latest @lithub column, I teamed up with Alice Wong @SFdirewolf to write a Letter Supporting Six Honorable Journalists in Northern Gaza. Please read, share and click at the bottom to add your name lithub.com/a-letter-suppo…
The framing is very western. Journalists are workers, and our role as laborers has always created conflict with employers, which gets even more complicated across borders & during wartime
Really fascinating CJR story about what the WSJ did to free reporter Evan Gershkovich. Raises lots of important questions about “objectivity” in journalism, the relationship between journalists & the (US) govt & the privileging of western journalists cjr.org/world/wall-str…

and if we can figure out how to really show up for each other during these times, then I think we could change the social experience of what it means to be disabled."-Stacey Park Milbern (may her memory be a blessing)
"I think just naming it, naming becoming disabled or more disabled as a transition that happens in life and that it can be a life-changing transition or experience is really important. Because most people, or all people, go through that at some time,
Disabled people and their families live in poverty at twice the rate of nondisabled people. How do you expect disabled people or parents with disabled kids to simply move to a blue state? This is deeply harmful advice. Just leaving poor folks behind?
If you have a kid with special needs, move to a blue state. If you are a racial minority, move to a blue state. If you are a woman, move to a blue state. If you are LGBTQ, move to a blue state. If you are an immigrant, move to a blue state. Time is of the essence.
Leftist disability advocates have been so consistent about this need throughout the pandemic. They’re bringing it up w/r/t leftist spaces because they want to organize with you. You can’t just call everyone who disagrees with you a fed
I do not take seriously this maximalist medical sensitivity that only seems to pop up, conveniently, the moment a working class socialist organization starts to fill churches and meeting halls with new members.
Seems like a great time to let people know that at our general membership meetings we provide and require high-quality masks to make the space more accessible for everyone!
