The housing affordability crisis is deeply personal to me—not just as Mayor, but as a father. My daughters, like so many young people today, deserve a real shot at affording a home in the community they grew up in.

$137,000 in development fees so that those who already have a home here can underpay property tax. So screwed up.

"he wasn't harassing a Canadian race" hey quick question what the fuck?

I agree with @TashaKheiriddin Ezra wasn’t chanting a genocidal rant, harassing a Canadian race, nor was he harassing anyone, yet he was the one arrested. Canadians are tired of this. Appeasement doesn’t work.

"Cut taxes on homebuilding" This is the first time I've ever heard a leader of the OLP say those words. The devil will be in the details but this is a good contrast to both the NDP and Tories in my books. So far liberal mayors like Ward and Del Duca have shown us the way, but…

Ontario families need hope and a clear path to homeownership. They deserve to know that a brighter, more affordable future is possible—one that fulfills Ontario’s potential as a hub of innovation and opportunity. Under Doug Ford, affordable rentals and homeownership feel like…

I have repeatedly made this point, again and again and again: The vast majority of waste, fraud, abuse, and overbearing, job-killing regulation is not in the federal government. It's the planning bureaucrats in your local city hall and zoning board.

When you combine high taxes on housing, with policies that make it illegal to build most types of housing, with multi-year delays and expensive regulations... ... you could probably cut the cost of new homes in half if government just *stopped* taxing and interfering.

Saeid Hashemi Reposted

In the 1990s, Ontario cities brought in "development charges" — taxes on new housing — to cover the cost of water and infrastructure required to support new homes. Now, cities use them to fund their entire capital budget... and taxes make up 30% of the cost of a new home.

The Ford conservatives are weaponizing bureaucracy to effectively prevent any municipality from widening sidewalks or adding bike lanes. Simply gumming up one layer of bureaucracy (municipal) in another (provincial) and we will spend gobsmacking amounts of $ for nothing!

I can’t believe people on here are seriously suggesting the federal GST rebate is more progressive than the Ontario one. Yes, there is a $150,000 cap. But *only* people who earned labour market income are eligible, which excludes kids, many people with disabilities, etc.

When housing is scarce, it transforms what should be a positive-sum good where building more benefits everyone into a zero-sum competition where one person's gain appears to come at another's expense. 2/12

This is the model of UBI that advocates should rally around — as a dividend from things that are owned in common, like natural resources or sovereign wealth funds.

We should see UBI as a type of common wealth dividend. It has no cost. Rather, it's a payment to us from something we own in common, like natural resources, sovereign wealth funds, and AI dividends.
