This is why there was so much concern in the NT over widows and orphans. The rest of the world saw these two groups as disposable. The radical followers of the way of Jesus normalized care for disposable people. Christianity is still relevant today.
Stanley Hauerwas- "If in a hundred years Christians are identified as people who do not kill their children or the elderly, we will have done well." It didn't take a hundred years sadly.
It’s Black Friday! Or as I like to call it Unsubscribe Friday. (Where I unsubscribe from all those emails that I forgot I subscribed to.)
Everyone is addicted to something. You can shift your addiction, but we all have an addiction. November 8th bugs me now. I couldn’t sleep tonight until it was closed.
If you are not getting outside and walking at least once a day, you are missing some of the best and cheapest(free) therapy available today.
I’m not saying going for a walk will solve all your problems, I’m just saying there’s almost no problem that’s going to be made worse by going for a walk.
Louisiana, we have a problem.
This is one of the most important forms of inequality in our society, and it’s implicated in pretty much every other kind. Kids need a mom and a dad. There are economic and social policy levers that can and should help, but we have to be honest about the issue first.
“For us sinful and fallen humans, divine mercy must be received with repentance before it is experienced as inclusion.” firstthings.com/article/2024/1…
Incredibly important about AI. I share some of the same thoughts when it comes to AI and the faith.
“Craft is knowing how to start, art is knowing when to stop”. Did not have Ben Affleck’s astute commentary about AI on my bingo card.
Subsidizing corn was probably the worst government decision ever made when it came to protecting the health of Americans.
Hint: this would happen automatically and without any regulation if we just got rid of sugar tariffs and corn subsidies.
We have an over focus on temporal concerns and an under focus on eternal ones.
What porn did to destroy one generation, gambling and sports betting apps will do to the next generation. We clearly don’t get it as a society that we are sinful creatures and probably shouldn’t have 24/7 access to vices in our pockets.
Incredible read about how mobile gambling apps are ravaging Brazil. 20% of a recent social assistance program have been spent on gambling, with some bettors taking out credit at rates exceeding 400% bloomberg.com/news/features/…
My parents didn’t know where I was half of the time from age 10 on. 😬 Such a shame that things like safely exploring your boundaries is frowned upon. Doesn’t anyone remember ET, The Goonies, or Stand By Me???
Police handcuffed Brittany Patterson in front of three of her four children for the crime of allowing her youngest son to walk less than a mile away. reason.com/2024/11/11/mom…
Andor and Rogue One are the ONLY Star Wars Apocrypha I accept as Canon. The rest is Gospel of Thomas level Gnostic Garbage.
The Coddling of the American Mind. @glukianoff and @JonHaidt already wrote extensively about this. Seems like no one listened.
At Georgetown’s School of Public Policy, officials are offering students legos, milk and cookies, and “mindfulness exercises” to cope with the election. You can’t make this stuff up. thefp.com/p/georgetown-e…
It’s not lost on me that Election Day this year falls on the 5th of November.
Before we go to bed every night, my family prays evening prayer together. Jesus is on the throne. Tuesday and Wednesday and EVERY OTHER SINGLE DAY!!! My allegiance is not to an elephant or a donkey but to a lamb. We would do well as a nation to remember that fact.
If your hope and despair are tied to election results, your god is too small and powerless. You cannot read the biblical storyline and walk away thinking, "I need to worry about whether or if God is truly in control."
…to the angel, “Who is that young man who is placing crowns on them and putting palms in their hands?” He answered… “He is the Son of God, whom they confessed in the world.” So I began to praise those who had stood valiantly for the name of the Lord. — 2 Esd 2:46-47
This is such an important scene to understand MLB today. The #WorldSeries is a rich team race. youtu.be/0h19anH4MdE
I have more than that in one room of my house. 100 is rookie numbers in this racket.
