Really ill over the latest report from CofE. This is not a 'look at them over there' illness, but a 'Lord have mercy on us all' illness. Conservatives, progressives, independent, episcopal...the whole church has a deeply perverse relationship with power. Lord, help us.
Because at least I need a little political levity.
OK, these videos are getting out of control 😂
Newsflash: being a good Bible teacher or preacher does not automatically make you a good Christian. The most important work ministers & leaders can do is the hard, slow work of pursuing holiness and health in ways that few people will ever see.
The gospel of grace is not, God despises you, but if you trust in Jesus’s death, God will love you. No. It’s: God has always loved you, and most fully demonstrates that love through Christ dying for you.
The coddling of the American mind has given birth to the throttling of the American mind. We have to re-learn basic civil discourse.
This is how elitism works. They draw bizarre conclusions that don’t have to be explained and can’t be contested. We must agree or get called names. We should all treat trans people (imago dei) with respect. There was no disrespect here. He was just engaging in discourse.
The truth isn’t a concept, it is a Person.
“Christianity is not a world view or an ideology… Anything that is a truth of faith and a rule of life circulates and appears in the world ‘in person’. It is ‘in the person of Jesus’ that we see God and have the Gospel.” — Metropolitan Dionysios of Servia and Kozani
Post-election reminder: Regardless of how you voted, the need to be curious & seek to understand those who voted differently is just as important after the ballots have been counted. Straw-manning the other will only perpetuate the gridlock we all hate.
If your candidate wins, be a gracious winner. If your candidate loses, be a gracious loser. Whatever your perspective, try to truly see those who differ from you.

I am looking forward to praying tonight, at my church, with people who likely voted differently from me. Our common prayer is a gift we can give to each other and to the world.
Lots of good stuff here.
It's been 10 years since the implosion of Mars Hill Church. Hard to believe. Like most things, Mars Hill had some amazingly beautiful and terrible fruit from its ministry. I will always treasure the good but want others to learn from the not-so-good. In the spirit of the…
"The 4 villains of decision making" according to Chip & Dan Heath are: 1. narrow framing 2. confirmation bias 3. short-term emotion 4. overconfidence We could also call these "the 4 villains of political discourse."
Why #allsaintsday is especially important for a church obsessed with #celebritiesforjesus
The thing about saints is that they are usually invisible. They devote themselves to mundane, hidden, & thankless works like playing with kids, dressing wounds, praying for their neighbors. In a world obsessed with celebrity, we need a renewed imagination for sainthood.

I think about this every year. Why are we so curious about evil & death?
’Tis the season for giant skeletons and inflatable black cats. But when our Halloween celebrations domesticate evil, we miss a chance to see true darkness through the light of Christ. @revhannahking in the CT archives: christianitytoday.com/2022/10/witchc…
Reading for a conversation about “10 questions every teen should ask & answer about Christianity” by @RebeccMcLaugh & so glad our teens will hear this: “marriage isn’t a destination; it’s a signpost.“ Romantic love isn’t everything.
Let the reader understand. And let the science speak.
'We must not publish a study that says we're harming children because people who say we're harming children will use the study as evidence that we're harming children, which might make it difficult for us to continue harming children.'
I am working outside at my local library, at a picnic table situated between two different campaign tents (Red & Blue). Feels like a kind of metaphor for life.
Eg. this really is/should be *part of* a Christian sexual ethic.
What if, in addition to teaching on sexual purity & ethics, churches also taught on the importance of voicing discomfort, disclosing abuse, and protecting the vulnerable among us? Wouldn’t that be cool?
