When I owned my business, I often felt trapped by it. Can’t quit. Can’t grow fast enough. Can’t be the dad/husband I want to be. Plus, what if I get sick/hurt and it all goes sideways? Lots of ways to feel trapped. Realized today how much that burden affects me now.
Reminder of an essential truth: you will die one day. "Do not waste time on everyone else’s vision for you." Thanks for surfacing this @RoryTyer
I’ve been a hospital chaplain now for eight years at hundreds of deathbeds. I want to tell you something I’ve witnessed. Most people, at the end, realize they’ve spent a lot of their life hiding. Sometimes by choice, or because they could not safely choose to be themselves. ➡️
Got to listen to this one yesterday. Definitely worthwhile for anyone debating jumping into CRE or SMB after their military service. A succinct overview of a lot of the major points.
This episode with @Sam_Rosati of Pursuant Capital is one of our best. We get to debate which industry is better, Commercial RE or owning #SMBs, and how Sam gets exposure to a ton of SMB deals If interested in owning small businesses or entrepreneurship in general, have a listen
What a messy and awful thing….makes me flare up in anger and deep sadness. Seems impossible to heal…and I’m not talking about me. Because I had it easy during my Army years. @AggieWill00, thank you for sharing your story
PLEASE READ: One of our Bulwark friends is an Iraq War vet and has written a deeply searing piece for the 20th anniversary of the invasion about his experiences on the front lines. This is tough and that's why I'm asking you to please read it. All of it. open.substack.com/pub/thebulwark…
An absolutely amazing opportunity for my fellow Veterans. @moseskagan is the real deal and has the character and integrity of someone you want to learn from. I’m scared of jumping into CRE but confident this will help.
OK, going forward w this service members & veterans real estate webinar. (No agenda on my end, except to do something helpful for people I admire.) Goal: De-mystify the business of doing private real estate deals, discuss some ways into the biz, & answer questions. No charge.…
Dang. Straight to the heart of the matter.
Enough beating around the bush on the Vision vs Integrator roles. Here is the cold, hard truth on why many of you don't understand these perspectives, and won't get the partner or setup you want. 👇
2022 was a frustrating blur for me. Got lost several times in depression and uncertainty about what I need/want to do next. Feeling more optimistic for 2023. This life can sometimes take so much time to sort out.
Legend!
My time to shine. “Gas goes into other things besides cars.” Brilliant.
Have mercy. Dealing with this same thing, Sam. I’m shook by the truths expressed here by Moses and Sam.
Optionality kills progress—almost killed my progress in deciding a place to live, type of business to buy, etc We tell ourselves we want more options, but I think we just want to be fulfilled in our work.
This is true
The cautionary tale they don’t tell you involves: A decent income, a job you know well, and a routine you can live with. Be aware. The monster that smothers potential comes wrapped in a nice, comfortable blanket.
And one new part of the adventure just got official: Rafting the Grand Canyon for 4 weeks this Spring. Gonna be wild.
34/ @cameronleesmith Everyone knows logistics is a cutthroat biz. That makes Cameron a damn SMB assassin, he built from scratch a niche logistics SMB and sold it a few months ago! He’s now hitting the road for 6 months and searching for a new biz to buy in CO/NC/SC area.
Read this now. And remember that we never know the whole scope of what people are going through. Be kind to others. And to yourself.
I am a 34 year old husband and father. I quit my W-2 to work in real estate with my teammates @johnplumstead and @AdamPeteParsons We buy and operate self storage and single family homes. This is all very ordinary stuff. But how I got here is pretty wild. A thread:
Maxwell, you’re a godsend for the SMB and ReTwit community
Applying for a mortgage as a business owner, an entrepreneur, retired individual and have trouble!? Getting approved can be a headache for self employed folks!! Not anymore! Here are a few “common sense” programs I specialize in:
It’s been a rough holiday season for the family. Sickness with the kids. My father in law has severe dementia and was moved to a “retirement” home. I sold my SMB and have no idea what happens next. Really need to buckle down and get prepared for 2022.
Finally was able to reserve my spot for @SMB_ash! Pumped to meet everyone in person and enjoy some Florida sunshine
