🔥Unprecedented & simply magnificent. That time in Nov 2024 when a haka led by Aotearoa’s youngest MP 22yo Hana-Rawhiti Kareariki Maipi-Clarke erupted in the House stopping the Treaty Principles Bill from passing its first reading, triggering the Speaker to suspend Parliament.…

Hackney’s decision to progress with a substandard design for Pembury Junction is deeply disappointing. It also exposes a lot of Hackney’s disjointed and confused thinking and policy making. This thread is important for your transport remit @SarahWoodberryD 👇 🧵

In no way can a junction design that FAILS on safety be allowed to be implemented. Hackney Council Pembury Junction plans are not fit for purpose & must be scrapped. & @hackney_cycling have an alternate Vision Zero scheme designed by a leading engineer available! @activetraveleng

The new Pembury scheme is discussed. Astonishingly the new scheme will score just 28% on a safety assessment tool (JAT). This is a fail by a long way (70% is an automatic fail) and a very bad engineering design.

❌️ council design ✅️ alternative, vision zero design! I've led call in (as cllr) of this decision as the design put forward by the council is not vision zero compliant. Widley agreed that Pembury Circus needs improving but the council design is not good enough 1/3

This used to be a dead-end street mainly used as a place to store large items of private property in a public space. It's sooooo much better as a pocket park!

1/ Hackney is moving forward with a Downham Road scheme without cycling provision. We don't think the decision makes any sense, and is a wasted opportunity. @SarahWoodberryD @mayorofhackney @carowoodley please read to understand the background of this strange decision ->

The decision on Pembury Circus will hasten the decline of our borough's reputation as a leader on cycling, because it is precisely at the most dangerous junctions where actions speak the loudest. 7/

On this day in 1971, Simone Langenhoff, aged 6, was killed while cycling to school; hit by a speeding driver. Her death and the movement started by her father, Vic Langenhoff, a newspaper journalist, changed an entire country and saved thousands of Dutch lives. Here's how 🧵

The temporary cycle track on Westfield Ave, Stratford with lanes & flexible bollards is better main-road cycle infrastructure than in most of London. The final cycle track won't have us dodging trees too! Would've been good to have got this right 1st time > see Pembury in 10 yrs.
