Houston’s loss will be some other TBD city’s gain. For the last two years, @jen_rice_ ‘s daily dispatches helped make local government accessible to Houstonians - especially newbies - in a very real way. She leaves huge shoes to fill.

some news: i'm leaving the chronicle. i have absolutely loved being part of the houston community (both online and IRL) and getting to know many of the people who care about this place as much as i do 🧵

Very proud of a lot of @Blueprint_2024 work this cycle, but finding that young people see America as a “dying empire run by bad people” was probably our best insight.

Someday all the Texas journalists will look back fondly on the day we all frantically pulled our “Trump names Ken Paxton AG” coverage plans out of the trash, dusted them off and then promptly threw them back away.

Nancy Mace is posting hundreds of times a day about penises, testicles, and toilets. Very strange behavior. Even gay men don't think about dicks that much.

Any time homelessness comes up on the Internet, even in overwhelmingly liberal spaces, you get to see just how little empathy people actually have, or at least how much aesthetics and fear influence their ability to feel empathy.

The speed at which Las Vegas Sands is building Austin lobby ranks is breathtaking. Check out their lobbying numbers over the past 6 yrs in Texas before Regular Sessions. 2020: 19 2022: 74 2024: 103 They aren't alone. Almost 350 lobbyists now registered to work on gambling here

I'm sorry, the old Nancy can't come to the phone right now.

The pandemic kept all of us from fully celebrating Pride here in the Lowcountry in 2020. But hopefully, as we finally begin to open back up, we can all come together to celebrate the challenges our LGBTQ+ has overcome, and the bright future ahead. #PrideMonth #Pride2021

The next time someone tells you not to contradict the voters about their “lived experience”, remember that they revise their estimation of their lived experience at will

A month ago, nearly two-thirds of Republicans said that their economic situation was worse than a year ago. One Trump victory later, fewer than half do. washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/…

Texas AG Sid Miller spent the summer touring swing states in a "gas and groceries" bus on Trump's behalf, and has told me that he was recruited for USAG before Trump's 2020 loss. I honestly thought he was as close to.a lock for this nomination as one could be.

Trump is expected to offer Kelly Loeffler the job as the Secretary of Agriculture, I'm told. She's expected at Mar-a-Lago Club this afternoon.

Whether it’s Joe Biden using an executive order to forgive student loans or Matt Gaetz using his adopted son’s Venmo account to pay the pimps of underage sex slaves, both sides have found unusual ways to give money to young people.

I feel like everyone angry at Sarah McBride for taking the “path of least resistance” approach to a congressional resolution that ONLY affects her and is directly targeted at her probably lives in a liberal environment and has never faced extreme personalized bigotry

And just like that it is over. With Gaetz out of the running, does Ken Paxton get another look?

I had excellent meetings with Senators yesterday. I appreciate their thoughtful feedback - and the incredible support of so many. While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance…

Austin, our policymakers gotta start thinking about this…

First ⁦@Waymo⁩ ride. At about one dollar per minute for a local trip in San Francisco, it's much too cheap. The city streets just do not have room for everyone to do this.

Could not agree more with @AJentleson here: “In politics, winning elections is the moral imperative. You go into this business to change people’s lives for the better. That means changing policy, and to change policy you have to win. Those who would rather lose elections so…

White men are the norm, everyone else is an exception. Has long been thus.

It’s remarkable to me how every young white male I’ve read an interview with has said that they voted for Donald Trump because they felt “accepted” as white men. Which would actually be identity politics. But the media says nothing because these are their racist white dimwit sons
