I had a very interesting conversation with @brianschatz about being a YIMBY in the Senate: slate.com/business/2023/…

Basically the entire PNW:

“We defeated the greedy developers” I say before packing up and moving out of the city I can’t afford because there is not enough housing

this is just God-tier political framing for a red state audience. incredible

SB 323 reverses strict California-Style zoning practices by broadly restoring the right of landowners to build middle density starter homes like duplexes and triplexes in existing urban areas. Learn more: frontierinstitute.org/frontier-insti… @Cotton_MT #mtleg #mtpol

A weird little consequence of our Tech Dystopia. It's like a man-in-the-middle attack for... Thai food.

So there's a great Thai restaurant in my neighborhood called Kiin. Yesterday, I searched for their website to order some takeout. Here's the Google result.

This is the greatest Mass Effect video of all time. Maybe ever.

From Carlos

"I'm the stylin, profilin, limousine ridin, jet flyin, kiss-stealin - WOO! - wheelin n' dealin son of a gun! You wanna be Dark Brandon, you gotta beat Dark Brandon! WOOOOO!"

"You tell Don or Ron or whoever the hell they pick that I'll see them at WrestleMania! I've got the big man and I've got the belt. Biden, out."

This weekend marked the "everyone discovers Mastodon kinda sucks too" stage of Twitter collapse. Say what you will, Twitter's UI always made it easy for dumb people to figure out how to post. Maybe too easy.

The advertiser brouhaha is funny to me because 99% of my Twitter use is in a browser with a good ad-blocker. I've almost never seen ads on here over the last 12 years. Don't mind me, I'll just make some popcorn and watch this place implode. 🍿

The one thing I'll fully admit the "we must retvrn" people have it right on is the internet. It was far, far better to have hundreds of small hangout spots on the internet rather than five websites total, all owned by two companies.

When men refer to themselves as "alpha males", I hear that in the context of software, where alpha versions are unstable, missing important features, filled with flaws, and not fit for the public.

No, it isn't, not here in Portland where it means "abolish police/prisons." I know because 1) they keep saying so and 2) we HAVE Portland Street Response now and it's apparently not enough. Try "Support Alternative First Responders" (SAFR) or similar.

"Quiet quitting" isn't even an accurate description - it sounds like a synonym for "ghosting."

I hate all these trend pieces about “quiet quitting” mostly because it gives today’s workforce credit for inventing “mailing it in,” an act with a rich and storied history shared by people who know their worth and people who don’t give a shit.

“When you look at it historically, liberal and progressive parties generally don’t defeat authoritarian and fascist assaults on democracy by themselves,” Mr. Raskin said. “Where democracy survives, it’s because the center-right and the center-left come together to defend it.”

It's really smart: They start a rumor like "at any time the Democrats could have made sure this didn't happen," without regard for the facts or how politics and government work. Then before you know it, people are blaming the pro-choice party for the loss of choice. 1/

If this nation was sane enough to topple The System and replace it with an actually-better one, we'd also be sane enough to avoid our current mess.

We have 48 votes to reject the filibuster. Only 2 more Senate Democrats means we could have nationwide legal abortion by 2023. Of course, with the filibuster gone, it also means we need to keep overwhelmingly voting for Dems forever to keep those rights.

The House passed the Women’s Health Protection Act months ago to codify Roe. The Senate must reject the filibuster and pass it. This is the worst reversal of constitutional freedom since the Court gutted the Reconstruction amendments in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Your friendly local Muslim & lawyer here to remind you Sharia permits abortion up to 120 days, for rape/incest, when fetus is non-viable,& to save the mother’s life—as a decision between a woman & her Dr Stop using our faith as your punchline—This is 100% ‘Christian’ nationalism

We're not the only nation that got complacent on abortion rights...

France is quickly responding to yesterday's U.S. news by moving to adopt a constitutional amendment codifying abortion rights in the French Constitution. Macron's party and the left opposition agree on it, and @lemondefr says it has the votes: lemonde.fr/politique/arti…
