Putin’s invasion of Ukraine has shown that we have been too complacent, too triumphant, and have failed to take defence and security seriously enough. ❌ The Government must abandon its planned further cut to the Army. Me for @yorkshirepost today 👇 yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/opinion/c…

Foundations: Why Britain Has Stagnated. A new essay by @bswud, @SCP_Hughes & me. Why the UK's ban on investment in housing, infrastructure and energy is not just a problem. It is *the* problem. And how fixing it is the defining task of our generation. ukfoundations.co

3,671 years. That’s the combined Lords experience of life peers over the age of 80. So, if Labour goes ahead with their plan to remove them, who exactly will they be kicking out? A thread. 🧵

It’s interesting to contrast this to the recent inflation spike. Economists, central bankers and politicians [rightly] spent the past two years battling a cost of living crisis that saw prices rise by an estimated 20% in total, largely offset by pay increases.

NEW: we don’t reflect enough on how severe the housing crisis is, and how it has completely broken the promise society made to young adults. The situation is especially severe in the UK, where the last time house prices were this unaffordable was in ... 1876.

In a devastating new piece, @jburnmurdoch shows that houses are the most unaffordable since 1876 (when we were seven times poorer) 1/

Lots of excitement today as our first customers got to experience our fabulous new Arterio trains. Today's trip to Windsor and back is the first step in the phased rollout of the full 90 train fleet later this year.

Excellent news! This will be a huge boon for the area and give thousands of people a place to live in a transport hotspot!

I think the BBC has done catastrophic damage to itself and possibly even prospects for peace and justice in Israel/Palestine in the past 24 hours. - Describing Hamas claims as coming from "officials"; - Speculating falsely that only an IDF missile could have caused the blast;…

Passenger safety is my top priority and everyone should be able to go about their journeys in peace. While incidents are rare, anyone who sees or experiences abuse on the railway should contact the diligent @BTP who work tirelessly to keep passengers safe.

🤝 Everyone is welcome on SWR. Today we launch our #AllAboard campaign to end discrimination and abuse on the railway. If you are subjected to or witness discrimination or abuse on the network, report it by texting the British Transport Police on 61016. Dial 999 in an emergency.

We are supporting @guidedogs to train young puppies to use the railway. 🦮🚆 Puppies aged between six and fourteen months old spent a morning getting fur-miliar with the many sights and sounds of trains and stations at our Portsmouth & Southsea station.

👑💂 This morning over 5,000 Armed Forces personnel arrived at London Waterloo for the #Coronation . It is the largest movement of service personnel by train since the State Funeral of Sir Winston Churchill in 1965. Thank you to all SWR colleagues who have made this a success.

Am sorry - this is pathetic and where as a nation we can seem so bloody small. He’s the prime minister of our country, representing Britain around the world. And at events where, if he hadn’t turned up, people would have been complaining even more loudly.

Recall that the government has spent months saying it can't find any money to prevent nurses and teachers getting very big pay cuts. He just found £6 billion to cut fuel duties. That's a choice.
