Labour's rustic DEFRA team take questions about their assault on family farms telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/…
Defra ministers answering questions about their raid on family farms proved about as illuminating as a power-cut telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/…
No 10 backs police to continue investigating 'Orwellian' non-crime hate incidents. PM's spokesman: 'It is important the police can capture data relating to non-crime hate incidents where it is proportionate and necessary to help prevent serious crimes which may later occur'
I have felt a little bad since posting this as I have been trying to avoid hyperbole in an attempt to promote sensible changes that can help farmers. Then it came out last night that the Treasury did not consult with DEFRA before proposing the #FamilyFarmTax. It really was just…
"...unless of course I introduce a really badly drafted #FamilyFarmTax. In which case I will encourage you to avoid by speaking to solicitors and accountants because then it might not look like a half-baked idea concocted by someone who knows nothing about farming."
It is genuinely amazing to me that a working journalist does not understand the position that *in principle* writers should not be visited at their homes by the police because of a secret "offence" based on anonymous denunciation.
If the article is correct, Liz Truss has no idea what the allegation is or what the police are actually invrstigating. Despite that, she has decided that the police are guilty of “appalling bullying” and an attack on free speech. This woman was Prime Minister.
“Yes anon, it’s completely normal for journalists to be harassed by the police for speech they won’t even name — why are you worried? Do you also hate the UK? Should the police be visiting you too?”

More sad news coming from Iran today. The dissident Kianoosh Sanjari has committed suicide in protest of Mullah regime’s oppression of the Iranian people. He lived in the U.S. for years, working for Voice of America Persian but later moved back to Iran where he was imprisoned
Hold up. Treasury and DEFRA stats on family farm tax impact are totally inconsistent, but surely this should have been ‘looked at’ *before* Rachel Reeves made her Budget announcement? It’s only the small matter of national food security after all…

Justin Welby is merely a symbol of the Church's wider malaise telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/11/1…
Conservative MP Alec Shelbrooke asks the PM if MPs can have more time to debate assisted dying "in full" "I know there are strongly held views... I do think there is sufficient time allocated," Keir Starmer says #PMQs bbc.in/3CzZftj
🗣 'Sometimes, during lambing season, I sit there and think: “Why the f*** am I doing this?"' This is what it's really like to be a farmer 👇 telegraph.co.uk/money/secret-l…

Prayers for Justin Welby and his family as he has asked and as I am sure he needs. Prayers too, continuing, for abuse victims, for structural and not just cosmetic change, for a healthier culture and for healing. And alongside prayer, work to try and make that happen.
Yikes. Has one of the most vocal starmtroopers let the cat out of the bag?
One of the reasons you can claim to have the strongest safeguards going is that everywhere else that has brought in legislation on assisted dying has relaxed them within a few years. It's not a flex.
From the new Assisted dying Bill: "A person who, by dishonesty, coercion or pressure, induces another person to make a first or second declaration [that they want to die] commits an offence." But what counts as pressure? What about: "'Mum, it's very expensive for all of us to…
PS. I note the Bill makes it LEGAL for a doctor to suggest Assisted Suicide to a patient who hasn't mentioned it (a common problem in cash-strapped health systems), but ILLEGAL for a doctor to refuse to refer someone for Assisted Suicide if they request it. No neutrality here.
‘We can do to the farmers what Thatcher did to the miners. It’s an industry we could do without. We don’t need small farmers.’ says John McTernan, a former Labour strategist. Is he saying the quiet part out loud? Heartless.
