A coin found in a late 1st century fire pit in Hamworthy last year. It’s believed to be a Neronian dupondius and might be an example of damnatio memoriae (condemnation of memory). Nero’s image has received a cut across the neck before being cast into the kiln fire. #FindsFriday

I’ve been feeding this mouse a few nuts at dusk for the last month. If I’m a bit late it comes looking for me in the garden #Springwatch

Many thanks to @BU_BAArchAnth's Prof Tim Darvill for helping us to interpret our long barrow section today, despite the biting wind, heavy showers and a rainbow! The barrow abuts the #Dorset #Hampshire border, near Sopley. #Neolithic #Archaeology

The challenges of recording sections in the #NewForest soil at #PF2019. @jon_milward from @BUARC_Archaeo has unleashed the water mist to help capture the full majesty of the #neolithic mini-henge ditch.

An absolute pleasure to be involved in this restoration and investigation project in the #Newforest with @EngNewForest and @NewForestNPA A very successful outcome and what an intriguing #radiocarbon date!

Find out all about our recent work with @EngNewForest and @BUARC_Archaeo to look after and find out more about one of the eriliest monumnets found in the @NewForestNPA The project has seen geophysical surveys, excavation and restoration work take place. nfknowledge.org/contributions/…

Our #FindsFriday were recently loaned to us to ID. These famous C19 forgeries are attributable to Billy Smith and Charley Eaton of London. Billy & Charley made a tidy living from such items and had many people, including archaeologists, fooled. We were only fooled for two days!

BUARC Project Officer Jon recently used our portable X-ray fluorescence instrument for post-ex analyses of finds from a site in #Weymouth. #pXRF is an extremely useful tool for #archaeologists that can tell us the elemental composition of artefacts and soils.

Great day out in the #Purbecks yesterday where BUARC staff surveyed using our GPS-tracked resistance cart and electromagnetic induction system. A multi-method approach works well for identifying any potential subsurface #archaeology

This week we're in #Wareham carrying out #geophysical and #building surveys at St Martin's Church, 'Dorset's oldest church', ahead of planned works. St Martin's Church houses an effigy of T. E. Lawrence #LawrenceOfArabia and wall paintings dating to the 12th-18th century.
