I built an economic model of the National Electricity Market to investigate how we can get to net-zero emissions affordably. Results are in a new @GrattanInst report out now. Here’s what @tony_r_wood and I learned. (1/11) #auspol #energy #ClimateChange grattan.edu.au/report/go-for-…

Big week (month, year, etc) in Aus Energy! Tune into @abcnews to hear me discuss the Govt’s gas price cap bill. The big win this week is the commitment to help households electrify, focusing on those with the toughest barriers. A sensible way to mitigate supply risks #auspol

Hey Aus #energy Twitter — Marinus Link funding is meant to be 80% CEFC debt and 20% govt equity. Tas minister says Tas consumers will pay <15%. But if ML is owned 50:50 between TasNetworks and AusNet, Tas consumers still pay half — right? #auspol

My latest: Some genuinely terrifying analysis on UK energy bills… 💷bills >£5k, highest in >50y 🏡2/3 to be in fuel poverty 🏥home energy costs £193bn (>> education + defence) …& political offerings not even close to meeting scale of the crisis 1/ carbonbrief.org/analysis-why-u…

Qld/NSW electricity prices are getting uncomfortably close to breaching the "cumulative price threshold" (a 7-day average price of $674/MWh). If breached, that would trigger AEMO to cap prices at $300. Table from @CEFCAus

Talk about momentum! In just over a year, we've seen the outlook for coal power in the National Electricity Market drop about 20% closer to the Step Change scenario. In Step Change, Australia gets to net-zero emissions in line with limiting warming to 2ºC, but not quite 1.5ºC

Life news + my last article at Grattan! After the best 3 years with the amazing @GrattanInst team, I'm moving on to work with @AuroraER_Sydney, focusing on the rapidly evolving electricity sector. Enormous thanks to @tony_r_wood and @alison_reeve theconversation.com/coal-plants-ar…
