The joke used to be that Twitter was always a cesspit, but that it was *our* cesspit. Now it is Elon Musk's cesspit and it is time for us to rebuild our communities elsewhere. A farewell to the platform once known as Twitter. tempestsandterawatts.com/p/a-farewell-t…

After a full 16 years on this hell site, I have come to terms with the fact we all need to leave. I’m going to write something more substantial, but in the meantime: I’m at blue sky at michaelmazengarb Also, my Substack at tempestsandterawatts.com

If you’re like me, swapping the location of the Twitter app on your phone with the bsky app will make a huge difference to unconscious use.

New York City has been under a ‘drought watch’ for the last week or so, after the second longest period without recorded rain in history. This is a bush fire breaking out in a city park.

#FDNY units are operating at a brush fire in Prospect Park in Brooklyn. Operations are ongoing.

By some estimates, Trump’s impact on the planet will be the equivalent of adding an entire year of the EU and Japan’s emissions to the atmosphere, writes climate diplomat @thomwoodroofe satpa.pe/WwAzrRl

I’ve been living in the US for just over 3 months now. I know that’s not very long. But I’ve never felt more like a stranger here than I did on Wednesday in the aftermath of the election.

This is one of the more informative pieces of analysis from the election wash out. Concern for democracy lost out to just base level concerns for voters. nytimes.com/2024/11/06/us/…

Had Harris won, we would have been preparing for MAGA fuelled attempts to undermine the democratic outcome. While we won’t have insurrection attempts, we’ll have four years of MAGA agenda in the White House, and the House, and the Senate, and the Supreme Court.

Was she though? Because I’m pretty sure we just spent months talking about an election that was too close to call.

There’s a point at which we have to question our unconditional alignment with the US. And that point is sometime between now and 20 January.

Congratulations to President Donald Trump on his election victory. Australians and Americans are great friends and true allies. Working together, we can ensure the partnership between our nations and peoples remains strong into the future.
