‘The work starts now’: Evicted Haggerston mechanic vows to keep fighting for fairer rents #Hackney #rent #SmallBusiness @EastEndTrades @hazelsheffield hackneycitizen.co.uk/2024/11/14/evi…
ALL HEROES WEAR OVERALLS! @leonard_maloney still faces eviction on Tues. The crippling uncertainty of the last 18 months imposed on him by @TfL & PfL has eroded his ability to stay afloat. If you can pls donate + share his GoFundMe page: gofund.me/fde93d19 @thegentleauthor
This is what democracy looks like. People rising up to hold @MayorofLondon to his promise to protect local businesses that are the the lifeblood of neighbourhoods. Sadiq Khan says he is pro-diversity, pro-human rights. Will he #standbylen?
We're outside City Hall to #singwithlen and tell @MayorofLondon that we stand together with Len @jc_ldm after his untenable rent hikes. Together we're stronger - Len's business given #socialvalue to London for years, and the #community stands with him. #standbylen
Extraordinary protest outside City Hall as east London mechanic Len Maloney urges the mayor to “stand by him” and not allow a TfL subsidiary to evict him from his garage (as he owes £112k in rent arrears following steep rent rises some years ago). No sign of the mayor so far.
Publicly owned landlord PfL @TfL has forced out vital small businesses from its railway arches only for them to lie empty. Absolutely senseless destruction of family businesses and the life blood of East End communities. But they are fighting back, and you can stand with them ⬇️
Music for a Fighting Fund - 15th Oct 7 to 11 @SignatureBrewE8 read more + buy tix here: bit.ly/3zsMz6D These arches/land are next door to @leonard_maloney after they closed Len's #SmallBiz neighbours some have been left empty for 5 years by @TfL subsidiary PfL. WHY?

‘The challenge is to improve the health of the planet at the same time as the health of people. We are preparing for the worst by building something much better’ Thank you @hazelsheffield for a lovely feature with many of our friends in the @guardian 📰theguardian.com/business/artic…
This, watch this. If the UK now plans to create a lot more new housing, there is massive inspiration here for how to get going.
This brought a tear to my eye. What a massive contrast with all the electioneering. Well done @camperbird and @right_hereUK Hope the right people see it
🎞️NEW FILM 🎞️ Leadership. Representation. Power. You don't just find these in Westminster. You find them in every neighbourhood. This General Election, we're telling a different story. You can join us: right-here.org/community-powe…
During 14 years of Tory rule almost 200 children from working households were dragged into poverty every day. My splash with the inimitable Larry Elliott on today’s @guardian front page amp.theguardian.com/society/articl…
A key facet of austerity ideology was asset stripping the state. This was obvious and funders should have mobilised with communities and local government bodies to preempt the firesale of public buildings and land years ago. It's not too late but it's still too slow...
Another space that could be critical to the community will be gone to private development, because we can’t can’t also move into neighbourhood / community asset because you just can’t raise capital quick enough.

First up - @EmaSabljak took the opportunity to bust out the full array of data we're tracking - across half of Scotland's cities. How does Dundee compare to Perth, Aberdeen and Inverness? #ddj #dataviz #datajournalism #DundeeMatters thecourier.co.uk/fp/courier-inv…
I was in Birmingham when this news broke on Tuesday and people were devastated. Why is no one talking about this in Parliament?
I've just seen among all the other bad news for the arts in Birmingham that the council is closing 25 out of 36 libraries - genuine cultural vandalism. Libraries are one of the few community resources left in the UK: they offer incalculable support and value.
