Jimmy Savile wrote a PR “handbook” for the royal family after Prince Andrew’s ill-advised comments at Lockerbie. 20 years of letters from Prince Charles to Savile - “You are the bloke who knows what’s going on” - revealed in Netflix doc. By me @thetimes thetimes.co.uk/article/2f52a5…

Bad Sisters 2 🖤

Caught up with Waiting for Godot last week and thought it was truly wonderful - can’t really imagine how you’d do it better. Ben Whishaw is particularly brilliant but all four actors are superb. Recommended!

Dr Strangelove is very fun and the staging is fab. Particularly enjoyed Steve Coogan’s Strangelove and Kong. Perhaps there could have been more of a dark heart beneath the knockabout farce given the present moment but as an escape from it…. I enjoyed it a lot

“We’ve got a good chance of going further than anybody thought we would.” Fantastic interview with @chrismccausland about #Strictly (“The samba’s a c***”)

What a pleasure to talk Strictly with Chris McCausland: ‘I don’t want to be the fun guy’ thetimes.com/article/994164…

Literally not one thing on earth lamer than Strictly’s spooooky VTs for Halloween week

“The question of whether to turn your family estate into a wedding venue or theme park is equivalent to whether to license a computer game or a pair of pyjamas based on your ancestor’s novels, as the Agatha Christie estate has recently done.” Such a good and interesting piece

These are exciting times for dead author as the publishing world wakes up to the potential of resurrecting old books for new generations. Is it boom time for literary estates? My @TheTimesBooks piece. thetimes.com/culture/books/…

This is excellent - and available to buy now on Kindle bloomsbury.com/uk/gulag-ficti…

E-book publication day 🎉 Strangely exciting to see it on my kindle!

Looking forward to the Netflix dramatisation of this, followed by the Amazon Prime one a couple of months later

While prepping to interview Boris Johnson tomorrow,  by mistake I sent our briefing notes to him in a message meant for my team. That obviously means it’s not right for the interview to go ahead. It’s very frustrating, and there’s no point pretending it’s anything other than…

It’s been two weeks since I watched the last episode of Colin from Accounts and I’ve still not stopped cringing
