Tranexamic acid doesn't help pph when given prophylactically to anaemic women. I increasingly see it given “just in case” in obstetrics. I see anchoring bias and mission creep with TXA with non evidence based practice creeping in. thelancet.com/journals/lance…

Pre-eclampsia had 7 deaths in the UkMBRACE report out today where it is a relatively minor cause of mortality. Globally >50,000 women & 500,000 babies die annually, when most are preventable. It is becoming increasingly important as a major cause but maybe the easiest to solve.

I’m a doctor. I completed 6 years at medical school, followed by 2 foundation years, working hard jumping hoops and even then wasn’t able to get an anaesthetic job. Tell me more about how people without medical degrees feel hard done by without having had to do the same graft.

Please see our response to @RCoANews draft AA scope of practice. anaesthesiaassociates.org/news/aapa-orde…

This updated Cochrane review reaffirms that magnesium sulphate given up to 34 weeks’ gestation is effective in reducing cerebral palsy and the combined outcome of death or cerebral palsy at two years’ corrected age.

New @cochranecollab editorial out today by @KarenLuyt about magnesium sulfate, an inexpensive drug that can prevent cerebral palsy in premature babies. We are proud to have helped roll out magnesium sulfate in England through the @PReCePT_MgSO4 programme. cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.10…
