Peer review is broken. And as it relates specifically to sociology, I’m beginning to wonder if the gatekeepers of the discipline and their dogged parochial view of what counts as sociology are forcing us out of the field.

Got a rejection after doing an R&R. Weird because, barring minor comments and an enthusiastic reviewer who thinks it should be published, the real comment is that the paper would fit at another journal. Then that raises the question as to why the original R&R then? Wasted time.

There is a blessing waiting for you at Emory! I’m convinced!

En route to Atlanta to speak at Emory tomorrow, and it’s already been a journey: 1. Left my AirPods at home 2. Left my iPhone in the Delta lounge (yes, had to run back halfway to my gate) 3. Just realized as we’re landing...my laptop is still at home Wish me luck!

The Bears are cursed!

I still go to the library and get them 😂. But I take your point!

This is presumably intended as a symbolic punishment, as I doubt the faculty enter Widener library except to protest. (My sense is that most faculty have books they need sent to them; they don’t go to the library themselves.)

When did @CNN move to a paid subscription service to read content in its website?!

What happened to Scott Jennings? I don’t remember this iteration of him.

The 4 years in office talking point doesn’t hold up against scrutiny when one realizes our system of government limits the exercise of power even when one party controls the White House and Congress. Only super majorities or ending filibuster would make 4 year point true.

If Kamala Harris loses the election, it’s 100% on her, and The Dem Party. They’re setting up Muslims, Arabs, Black men, and everyone to take the blame, but themselves. You’ve been in office for almost 4yrs, you had plenty of time to enact policies that’d make people vote for you.

Would love to know what happened with negotiations that prompted CBS to acquire the rights to Big Ten games after having the SEC? To be clear, I’m happy my school (Illinois) is on CBS but this network used to have all the big SEC games!

A remarkable organization in Montgomery, Alabama that is a catalyst for change in the Deep South.

After years of working in a cramped environment, artists at The King’s Canvas are excited to move into our newly renovated, larger space. This fresh setting will provide ample room for creativity and collaboration, making it easier for artists to express themselves. #canvasmgm

These number are absolutely remarkable for what they show about the decline in first-year Black student enrollment at ⁦@UofIllinois⁩. In 1968 the university enrolled more first-time Black freshman than it did in Fall 2024. This is a crisis that deserves attention.

This methodological debate is wholly without merit and the fact that Mario Small has been invoked to justify slander of qualitative inquiry is preposterous. Mario is a champion of judging qualitative inquiry on its own terms. Suggesting otherwise is dishonest and sloppy.

Given the responses, I need to add two posts. Although I'm not a qualitative researcher, the concerns I'm raising are discussed regularly by qualitative methodologists. I'll put one source here and one in the next post. journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.117…

His comment about selection bias also demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding about qualitative inquiry.

Not imperialist! 😩. As my political science professor I need you to be more encouraging lol

maybe it’s cause they’re cut from the same imperialist cloth

Yet curiously the only thing she has been willing to say she’d do differently than Biden is name a Republican to her cabinet. I’m still trying to understand why this is the flex they think it is???

kamala harris refuses to stray one centimeter from them talking points chile lmao

Serious question: what does @CNN gain (outside of potential financial benefit) by platforming people, particularly supporters of the GOP ticket, who just say anything whether or not it is fact based? It doesn’t inform policy discussions in any way. It does more harm than anything

The public political discourse in this country is entirely useless. It is rooted in rank dishonesty, hypocrisy, and deeply unreasonable positions. It is no wonder so many people are turned off and opt to not participate in the political process. It is literally maddening.

Can’t wait to read this! Such an important contribution that I hope will build momentum around organization scholarship!

proud of this new article that's now out in RSO about how to revitalize organizational theory drawing on problem-oriented sociology. it's open access, and so everyone can read it emerald.com/insight/conten…
