The Law Council has written to a number of Senators raising a set of key concerns in relation to the Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Bill 2024. A copy of the Law Council’s letter can be found on our website: lawcouncil.au/resources/subm… #auslaw

They say that operating a practice can’t be done on merely an iPhone. “They” may be correct. Lucky the computer is back on Thursday thanks to my team of tech wizards headed by Mustafa the chief wizard. 🧙 #ITfail

I don’t like the wording of this bill at all. “It will be an offence to incite hatred, serious contempt, revulsion or severe ridicule”. I am going to have to seriously defend people for their poor taste in tweets and posts on social media platforms.

"Introduce new criminal offences for serious vilification, such as inciting hatred or threatening physical harm against someone because of who they are or what faith they follow" premier.vic.gov.au/you-deserve-be…

I’ve joined a new gym sadly due to the relocation. My previous gym was basically unchanged since the mid 90s. New gym is bougie AF. People judging me because I’m just in awe of the new fancy equipment. Vibes are starkly different. Very fancy.

In the plus side I managed to hunt down new internet at 500mbps

Lawyers nightmare; computer breaks down on a Monday. Won’t be fixed until Thursday/Friday 😡

The Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Bill 2024 There needs to be a more considered approach. Liberty Victoria advocates for more targeted interventions that aim to minimise harms while preserving social media’s benefits for children under the age of 16. 1/2

Hopefully not too rushed given I've got a Year 11 English exam tomorrow - but behalf of all of @6NewsAU, I have made a submission to the relevant Committee regarding the social media ban for under-16s There's less than 24hrs to make a submission: aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_…

As Australia's 'Social Media Minimum Age Bill' is introduced into Parliament it's important to point out the policy DOES NOT HAVE THE SUPPORT of the @eSafetyOffice, Australia's online regulator established to keep children safe online. The eSafety Commissioner, Julie Inman Grant…

I am an elder millennial. I remember when computers became a thing. In fact, I grew up as they evolved and we learnt the world at the same time. I have been there at every important stage of the internet. Bulletin boards, ICQ, IRC, LAN parties, reddit, competitive gaming,…

This is remarkable: the teen social media ban legislation has been referred to a committee for consultation .... for 24 hours! If you wanna have a say you have until tomorrow. Report due next Tuesday

Magistrates’ should be renamed and assume the title of Judge. Most punters call them judges in any event. They hear the vast majority of cases in this state.

"The title of 'magistrate' has been retained from the era when they were appointed from the ranks of public servants and sat in the Courts of Petty Sessions. In NSW, magistrates have been required to hold legal qualifications since 1955" Similarly in VIc: classic.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/vic/c…
