Exclamation marks! and question marks? shouldn’t be relegated to the ends of sentences like periods.

ai will be a tool, not a thing labs are not trying to create life, they’re trying to make money you’ll have a fleet of autonomous computer-using agents with no more soul than gpt-4o

If AI destroys the consensus reality of our media, that’s probably a good thing. Let the virtual be a personal mirage and let base reality be where we find common ground.

The only way out of a plateau with AI systems is online learning. The way you do that with foundation models is ICL. So what you need is a network of prompts where back-propagation takes the form of few-shot examples.

We landed on the moon in ‘69, by the mid-‘70s NASA funding was cut in half. Researchers in the ‘60s probably thought the moon landing would be an inflection point for their field, but it turned out to be the finish line. I expect AI will have a moon landing moment.

Does aphantasia mean you’re unable to dream? Or just that the boundary between your waking life and dream life is less porous than most?

Very impressed by Recraft AI - a new image generation service that can generate editable vector graphics that you can export as SVG This seems massively more useful than tools that can only output raster graphics

You might mistake exponential growth in training compute for exponential intelligence growth. It’s actually the opposite. So far we’ve needed exponentially more compute to offset *logarithmic* intelligence gains. Takeoff will only happen with a self-improvement feedback loop.

The bioinformatics stack will get rewritten for GPUs over the next decade. New molecular assays, managed infrastructure and tailwinds from the AI boom create the perfect storm We release benchmarks for GPU-enabled nf-core/methylseq + invite collaboration on our assay roadmap.

I guess we learned that it’s not a good idea to run for re-election at the age of 81 and a -20 approval rating. Not really something that we should have had to learn but we sure did learn it.
