Agree. We should not send another dime to fund the genocide. Netanyahu’s reckless disregard for civilian lives in the pager attack in Lebanon is yet another example of why we need to cut off military aid.

Much of the carnage in Gaza has been carried out with U.S.-provided military equipment. Why on earth would the U.S. approve another $20 billion arms sale to Israel? I will move to block these weapons. Not another nickel for Netanyahu’s illegal war.

Hi Alice, according to this expert panel, using timed activities is strongly supported by empirical evidence as a way to increase fluency and automaticity by struggling students. Link provides more detail to support the recommendation. Hope it's helpful. ies.ed.gov/ncee/wwc/Pract…

With deep remorse for the actions of our country’s federal government, which shows no signs of wavering in its commitment to unconditional military and political support for Israel’s genocide in Palestine, announcing that I will be voting uncommitted on Super Tuesday. (1/2)

Al Jazeera asked displaced Palestinian children about their hopes for the new year. I wanted to share their responses here:

We could see almost a quarter of Gaza’s population - close to half- a million human beings - dying within a year. Largely deaths from preventable health causes & collapse of the medical system. It’s a crude estimate, but one that is data-driven… theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Aisha Zoghroub was only 17 days old when she was killed in an Israeli airstrike along with her two-year-old brother Ahmed. She was born on December 2, into a world of pain, fear and war. She didn't even have a chance to live before she was killed. timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry…

Look Dunia in the face and remember it's children like her we are trying to save when we demand an immediate ceasefire.

12-year-old Dunia lost her leg in an Israeli airstrike that killed her whole family. We filmed this video with Dunia during the seven-day truce, and yesterday an Israeli tank-fired shell killed her while she was recovering in Naser Hospital in Khan Younis.

It just hit me right now that there is no one I know in Gaza, a friend of a family who has not lost their home, or a relative in the last 70 days, including my parents, siblings, and cousins who all lost their houses.

Unpopular-ish opinion: A lot of those “traditional” / “old school” teaching methods work. Textbooks, HW, reading, direct instruction, hand-writing… You can go so far left with good intentions and have little to show for it. I said what I said. #edchat #teachertwitter

for any and all teacher discourse: I came to teaching and schools as a second career. I still feel all the time like I'm a bad teacher and this is why: teaching is so, so hard. However hard you, a person not currently in a classroom, think it is? It's 100x harder.

Agreed. Reading is a fundamental factor of life. Reading is required for all aspects of life: ordering food, paying bills and even social media. Not being able to read is being locked out of life. Be careful what “expert” you quote re: literacy. No everyone is the same!

"Reading lives ruined". This callously pernicious romanticism is killing our schools, undermining our physical/mental/economic health, destroying families, and filling prisons.

Sometimes, I can tell by the response to my posts, that some people have lived privileged lives as far as reading is concerned. Most people around them haven’t struggled through generations of their families. Seeing regular failures in their spaces isn’t a common occurrence. 🧐

His vulnerability and tenacity are everything—AND it’s so wrong, so unjust that he was never taught. A reminder to me that what we do in school matters. What we do as teachers—the granular details of lessons, the meticulous presentation of ideas—matters. We have to get it right.

YES! The Minnesota state legislature made an alternative system in 2017—more affordable, accessible paths into teaching that don’t require paying college tuition to work in a school—but the education colleges are already trying undermine that system. minnesotareformer.com/2023/05/11/end…

More people need to question the system that decided that a student teacher needs to pay full college tuition without getting pay for the full-time work that they’re putting in at a school for multiple months
