Our federal climate strategy is imperfect. A carbon tax is “first best” climate policy, so isn’t it the optimal way to fill the voids? I challenged that assumption here: energypolicy.columbia.edu/should-the-inf…

This is it! HCD will review Bay Area cities to see if they've zoned for new housing in wealthy areas. If a city fails, their zoning will be suspended and unlimited height & density at >20% affordable housing can be approved anywhere. Many are about to fail darrellowens.substack.com/p/ca-cities-to…

At every step of the clean energy transition, we need to examine our choices rigorously, holistically, and with love for all of humanity and our planet. This is the kind of research I’m talking about. Thank you @triofrancos @cpluscp

How much lithium is needed to electrify the car-dependent status quo vs transforming the transportation system to increase mass transit, walking & cycling? Our new @cpluscp report finds dramatic differences. We can achieve more mobility with less mining 1/ climateandcommunity.org/more-mobility-…

All students get free lunch at my kids’ school and it’s great. It’s zero stress, & they love the food and tell us every day what they had. There’s so many reason to do this and so few not to.

D.C. could offer free meals to all students. Every city should. wapo.st/3jcL6sR

Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users. ALL ROAD USERS. And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. For sharrows, it’s safer to NOT have them. Via @StreetsblogUSA usa.streetsblog.org/2019/05/29/pro…

Microfinance loans should be replaced by unconditional cash transfers, COMBINED with the expansion of not only strong systems of social provisions but also community-owned and – controlled institutions for climate adaptation and a just ecological transition.

“People are rightly busy with a million other things … If they dedicate a little bit of the most valuable resource they have — their time — to thinking about climate … and maybe that spurs them to think ‘What can I do,’ … I really do think there’s a lot of value to that.”

The Prince and Princess of Wales came to Boston for a glitzy climate award. They brought with them the UK press pool, lots of fanfare and a spotlight on innovation. But can they move the needle on climate change? bostonglobe.com/2022/12/02/sci…

Turns out white LEDs are actually blue LEDs with a phosphor capsule, a complicated and clever bit of material that turns some of the blue light yellow—just enough to make our eyes see white. But if any of that assembly breaks, melts, delaminates...things go Princewise.

Here’s the specific issue at play today - countries can hide information about their offsetting trades by claiming that it’s “sensitive”. There is no independent way to check or verify that. We just have to trust it. #COP27 #Article6 twitter.com/mattadamw/stat…

Problem 5 (Article 6.2) Countries can deem information about credits "confidential" (perhaps claiming commercial sensitivity). This removes transparency from system - means we may not know how credits used, how many times, by whom, and whether climate benefits or is harmed.
