St. Gregory’s Minster at Kirkdale in North Yorkshire. The nave is late Anglo-Saxon in date (c.1060); the chancel was rebuilt in 1881, and the tower added in 1827. The church is famous for its Saxon sundial which is located above the porch door. #SteepleSaturday 📸 My own.

#FindsFriday Beautiful Mesolithic baskets so well-preserved they look modern rather than made by hunter-gatherers some 9,500 years ago! 🤯 A rare glimpse of ancient crafts used by people long ago that are still in use today! When they were found in the 19th century, inside the…

I wonder who the last person was to pour from this flagon? Nearly the whole span of Roman occupation in Northern Britannia is represented in the trench south of the Severan 3rd century building #uncoveringromancarlisle #Archaeology

I see faces 😬 (Stowe House) 🏛️🧠👀 Our frontal cortex is wired to read faces, so it’s no wonder we’re drawn to architecture with character. When a building 'speaks,' it adds to the spirit of place, making us feel more connected.

Walking home along the country lanes after a long day, I could smell woodsmoke and autumn in the air. The only sounds were the sheep and birds and my own footsteps, heavy with a quiet tiredness, knowing I'd earned a fire, a good book and a lot of cheese. #peakdistrict
