It’s now online! My paper on the dangers of translation, namely, its hidden agenda-setting beneath the seemingly “same/original” outfit; its potential of subverting the powerful; and its ability to silence the weak. newvoices.arts.chula.ac.th/index.php/en/a…

Important from @UofGVC Reliance on international students (who bring so much to universities and communities) is damaging because of a funding gap from government. It’s been built in and those students have increasingly picked up domestic cost as public support has been reduced.

Anton Muscatelli, outgoing principal of Glasgow University, calls on the Scottish government to plug the funding gap and stop relying so heavily on international students. My story for @heraldscotland heraldscotland.com/news/24722721.…

Finally, someone acknowledges that #narratives shape both reality and our perception of it. The next step is understanding that narratives are only powerful for a limited time; eventually, reality takes over.

We may be rebranding ourselves as multilingual experts, prompt whisperers or terminology architects, but the essence of our work is the same. Translators are the custodians of public trust – and trust requires the human touch. @UniWarszawski at #2024TEF

The Dunhuang exhibition at the British Library. Felt very privileged - and moved - to be able to read handwriting from 1000 years ago. Time and space, life and death, all faded away, as if I was there with the people who set down these words - or they were here with me.
