When I moved to LA I read City of Quartz and it completely transformed my experience of the politics of the city. Just moved to Santa Cruz, so now I need to read this.

This housing and homelessness stuff is not rocket science. California has high homelessness rates because we don't have enough homes for everyone. The solution is to build a lot of housing, in the places people want to live, at every price point, as fast as possible.

Here's an op-ed I wrote on reforming the Coastal Act: Reforming California's landmark coastal law can restore balance between housing and environment calmatters.org/commentary/202…

Important report and thread on how @TheCACoast has resisted, opposed, and delayed the construction of deed-restricted affordable homes, as well as crosswalks, bicycle lanes, and infill development near transit.

Today, @CirculateSD published a report titled "A Better Coastal Commission." Our report details a number of examples where the Coastal Commission has delayed or denied approvals for affordable homes. Reforms are needed to ensure coastal access for all. circulatesd.org/a_better_coast…

The Coastal Commission should be a bulwark progressive institution. But do their actions measure up? This Friday, we publish “A Better Coastal Commission,” reviewing the record and recommending reforms for a more equitable and sustainable Coastal Commission. #BetterCoastal

We need more money for affordable housing by supporting @BuffyWicks' #AB1657! @CAgovernor, @CASpeakerRivas & @CASenateProTem, please support this housing bond. YIMBY Action & our partners agree, it’s vital for an affordable California. yimby.blog/letter-of-supp…

Santa Cruz is not above the law and must be held accountable. Denying housing during a housing crisis is not acceptable.

To combat a growing public perception they are anti-housing, the Coastal Commission is hosting a seminar on fair housing in the coast next month. Will you join me in commenting that their opposition to AB 2560 (affordable housing incentives in the coast) harms fair housing there?

The food bin’s new home, which includes apartments, is heading to an appeal at city council. Sign this petition to show your support ! actionnetwork.org/petitions/supp…

In Santa Cruz County, please call @gailforassembly at 916-319-2028 or @addis4cc at 916-319-2030 and let them know to support AB 2560!

I just called Assemblymember @PhilTing @asmphilting's office and urged him to vote YES on AB2560, a bill that would end this lawlessness in the CA Coastal Zone and ensure that coastal communities like Half Moon Bay don't get to flaunt their NIMBYism with zero consequences

🚨Unbelievable but true: In 2018, the Coastal Commission (@TheCACoast) approved a MASSIVE oil drilling operation 🛢 in one of the most polluted coastal cities. Yet, this April, they rejected an ADU citing 'visual impacts' A thread on environmentalism that lost its way ⬇️

More affordable housing is coming to downtown Santa Cruz! Pacific Station South, a 100% affordable building planned to open in June, is now accepting applications! See the flyers below or visit pacificstationsouth.com

Santa Cruz has really jaded me to the selfishness of these rich coastal communities. They're all white towns full of retirees with a hidden underclass of Latino workers holding up every sector of their economy. Yet their NIMBY housing policies keeps them segregated far away.

A tragedy exposed “deplorable” living conditions for farmworkers in Half Moon Bay. A plan to help is being stonewalled. trib.al/faeFqNd
