Languages can be seen, heard, felt. They are signed, written, drummed, spoken. They are multimodal/multichannel: e.g., spoken elements co-occur with visible bodily actions. Inclusive language is accurate language: if you're talking about spoken language(s) only, please say so.
Super interesting study by @IngelaHolmstrom ! Beautiful and inclusive presentation on Swedish Sign Language teaching. The support of L1 Swedish seems to support theoretical courses. @AILA2021NL
In an early dissertation draft when I was critical of research participants’ use of stigmatizing stereotypes, my advisor warned me not to disrespect people by interpreting their discourses at face value & missing what they’re trying to achieve interactionally—an important lesson

Here is your regular reminder that just because you do research in communities of color doesn’t mean you are doing anti-racist research. In fact, much of the research focused on communities of color is quite racist.
There they are! Soyuz parachutes have deployed, the crew is in great shape, and the skies over Kazakhstan are sunny. Landing is minutes from now.

Yes! The concept of chaining mentioned by @c_borstell comes from @SangeetaBG 's extensive work on multimodal and multilingual languaging practices. I've found the concept very useful, e.g. in : tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.108… I can send a copy for those who are interested.
Making visible taken-for-grantedness...
My hypothesis is that mainstream linguistics has been defined so narrowly that people who would be most likely to form these new organizations never considered linguistics to begin and instead found homes in other fields like education or ethnic studies

Yes. The major problem in our society is not white supremacy and heteropatriarchy but that some of us aren’t willing to be friends with white supremacists, misogynists and homophobes who are literally working to strip us of our rights.
Remember when you could disagree with someone and treat them with respect and even be their friend? We can still do it. #RuthBaderGinsburg
