Injustice is having to suffer dire consequences of a crisis you did not cause. If we do not commit to limiting 🌏 warming under 1.5C and enhancing climate finance, #climatechange impacts will worsen - for ALL countries. The safety of our world depends on #climateaction NOW.
As I witnessed in Samoa, high & rising sea levels are already causing severe damage to people in coastal communities in the Pacific region & other small island developing countries. The world can no longer wait to take bold & resolute international #ClimateAction.
I was deeply moved by my meeting with coastal communities in Samoa forced to move their homes inland. Sea levels are rising at a rate not seen in at least 3,000 years. If we don’t reverse these climate change trends, we will see this tragedy in other coastal areas globally.
I thank Prime Minister Fiamē Naomi Mataʻafa for welcoming me to Samoa. This is the first stop in my visit to the Pacific Islands - a region that has demonstrated enormous resilience & leadership in the face of the climate crisis.
