Many thanks to @apt_geneva for sharing my thoughts on coercive interviews - and I hope that practitioners/judges in every forum will read and train on the #MendezPrinciples to make our legal systems more just. @IntlCrimCourt @DeptofDefense @TheJusticeDept

Beyond its impact on individuals, torture compromises investigations and information gathering. @PradhanAlka shares her experience to explain how the #MéndezPrinciples can ensure there is no coercion at any juncture of the justice system. Read her blog: ow.ly/w5uY50MiojJ

Let it become a tale. Never forget the victims of a genocide.

When I used to work at the Indonesian hospital, I would pass a tent that seemed out of place. One day, I asked about it and learned a story that broke my heart: the tent stood where a family home once was, destroyed in a bombing that killed everyone inside except one son. With no…

This kind of further harm upon harm aimed at a torture victim survivor is intolerable. It belies the U.S. long- standing positions on torture at international fora. It suggests a deeply flawed prosecution strategy.

The bulk of Welner's testimony is making assumptions and fabricating details about Ammar al Baluchi's life and psychology. Last week he fabricated a baby he said al Baluchi fathered, which is just untrue.

Reading this excellent read out from @GitmoWatch feels like being an observer to the remaking of oppression and violence as Dr Welner enhances and affirms a world of torture as a universe none of us who know torture survivors recognize.

Welner understands Ammar al Baluchi was continually assessed for PTSD throughout his time in CIA custody, on to detention at Guantanamo Bay but even a diagnosis wouldn't affect voluntariness.

Proud to be working on implementation of the #MendezPrinciples - and in particular, keeping the taint of torture out of courts.

Welner makes it sound like CIA black sites, known for incommunicado detention and torture, were just like resort towns -- al Baluchi had time to catch up on reading. He always wanted to focus more on reading the Koran.

The language used by Dr. Michael Welner in his testimony suggest on the effects of torture @drmwelner suggests a cognitive dissonance on the demonstrated effects of torture and a blatant disregard for human dignity.

Welner testifies CIA interrogators kept things 'genial' after torturing Ammar al Baluchi. He suggests the torture didn't cause long-lasting trauma.

Here we have the USG eliciting evidence - in 2024 - that the @CIA torture program…wasn’t torture. And you all wonder why I draw a straight line from impunity for USG crimes and our current state of affairs.

Welner testifies the CIA RDI (rendition, detention, interrogation) program was more than EITs (enhanced interrogation techniques) -- it pivoted by design.

From what I have seen from all sorts of public records, however overly (or poorly, to our benefit 👀) redacted, the truth is right there staring us in the face ☢️The complicity of the #FBI is IMO a massively overlooked component of this whole cancerous mess #tortureprograms

There’s evidence the FBI was involved in the original black site #interrogations at CIA prisons where #torture took place, before they were sent to #Guantanamo. The CIA isn’t the only agency that doesn’t want to truth to be known about the torture program independent.co.uk/news/world/ame…

Gitmo vultures are bigger than ever. Make of that what you will.
