This Budget was a crucial test of political bravery and environmental commitment. Reeves failed those tests by increasing bus fares by 50% to 'save £350m' while starving the Treasury of another £3 billion in fuel duty revenue. Judge politicians on the choices they make.

Some good reasons to raise fuel duty but no avoiding how deeply unpopular it is. Easily the most unpopular of the ones we polled recently. Unlike some of the other personal taxes, support doesn’t even change much even when you say it’s to raise funds for public services.

The nights are drawing, so remember to paint your house bright yellow in order for drivers to see you in the dark! Sounds ridiculous, doesn't it? Yet, every year, we tell kids wear bright clothes because we think it's their job not to get killed by speeding drivers.

A 1p rise in fuel duty could fund free bus travel for everyone. #Budget2024

Cyclists and walkers truly are 2nd class citizens in the UK Shared use path has bits ripped out (for utilities presumably) with no warning, no signage Hitting similar defect in the dark meant 8 weeks off work for me

Fancy that! Closed Roads, Closed Shops? By Martin Sixsmith #OTD 1973, The Cherwell reported on road closures in #Oxford, "part of the city council's plan to combat traffic congestion and make life safer for pedestrians". Suffice to say, did not meet with universal approval...

Tonight's OxPA meeting is CANCELLED, with regret. We're grateful for all the interest in the subject of hire bikes and we hope to be able to reschedule. Our next meeting is planned for December - watch this space!

Oh dear @LouHaigh, has the car lobby got to you? "When people are priced out of driving it risks holding them back." You know what really holds people back - the lack of affordable, accessible public transport, safe cycling routes and pavements🤦‍♀️ mirror.co.uk/news/politics/…

Was speaking to a blind person last week and he ended up with stitches in his head as he had fell over a dumped rental e-bike in London. Another colleague has fell over them 5 or 6 times. It is so unfair.

'I see cycling, pedestrians, liveable streets and low carbon groups as different parts of the same social movement.' A welcome message, in every sense, from Ian Loader:

We are thrilled to announce that we have a new chair, who from now will be co-chairing Cyclox with @DrAlisonHill until she retires at the November AGM. Here is a blog written by Ian setting out his ambition for Cyclox under his leadership cyclox.org/index.php/blog/

and park on the pavements in east oxford.

Currently there are two Doing Good Council Vans parked in the disabled parking spaces in Broad Street. I have reported this. Why do the Doing Good vans think they don’t need to obey parking rules? They’ve also been parking on double yellow lines in East Oxford.

We need to meet please as there are two things in-common with Glasgow and Greater Manchester. Bus stops in cycle lanes…

Sandy Taylor’s @NFBUK message for @COP26 ‘We do not want to cross cycle lanes to get on & off the bus. We want safe access to public transport direct from the pavement. Sustainability & accessibility have to go hand in hand to #LeaveNoOneBehind#COP26 #Glasgow #SauchiehallStreet
